Even as Khadroma climbed the steps to her daughter's apartment, she felt her stomach tossing and turning. She knew how to hide it well but she didn't really want to hide it from her daughters, either of them. So much of her life had been shrouded in lies and she had vowed a long time ago that she'd no longer do that--at least, not with her family. Knocking on the door, she took a deep breath as she waited for it to open. She had called ahead of time--she hadn't wanted to just drop in and she knew damn well that Lyonet could use that as an excuse to be elsewhere when she arrived. Still, she hoped her daughter would want to see her. They'd spoken maybe once or twice on the phone since the disastrous Hanukkah fiasco but she hadn't actually seen her daughter since then, though she'd been fraught with worry ever since then (even before since then, if everyone was being honest). When her daughter did open the door, she gave her a small smile. She hadn't even really planned what she was going to say--she'd certainly thought about it. She'd thought about it before she went to bed and when she was in the shower and on her way to work and everywhere else. But she hadn't been able to decide what she actually wanted to say. But what came out was "Hi love. Can I please come in?"
