Saw this tweet and it tickled my brain perfectly and also reminded me of my post about how id see an omegaverse idealistic AU where Dunkaerion comes to be

( small pre-AU events sponsored by my inspiration for a possible Lyonel x Maekar side plot within this AU<3 )

Whole puppet show drama happens but Aerion does accept the traditional 1v1 trial by combat but since Maekar and Baelor see that Aerion seems very much confident that he will defeat Dunk, they add a condition that they only tell Aerion at that time: if he loses, he will be obligated to be a teacher to Dunk to be a better knight skill wise (since atp Baelor ofc has talked to Dunk about his skills and Baelor is vouching for Dunk in his own way) until Baelor and Maekar deem he has perfected Dunk as a knight.

(this is an IF case) Since i don't know exactly the logistics of trial of combats if there is a favor seeking part then i think here Baelor would make the equivalent to what he did in the trial of giving his blessing to Dunk while Maekar is bewildered ofc

Ofc the trial ends in Aerion yielding and after Dunk is medically stabilized by the maesters (because ofc Aerion would've still f#cked him up even if he lost) he meets with Baelor and Maekar to notify him of the condition, which Dunk is stunned but both assure them that if Aerion tries anything he will be dealt with, and ofc along those lines Egg would keep being Dunk's squire with Maekar's official approval, but until then they would reside at Summerhall for Aerion to teach.

From here i wouldn't be the best to say exactly how their romance would ensue, but definitely there is a lot of denial of feelings from both sides, as well as T E N S I O N, Aerion being genuinely frustrated of his inner nature being the way it is since "a dragon does not bow to such weak nature" i can imagine him saying to himself, while Dunk simply wants to stand on business, especially after having his sh!t rocked but is too nice and can't bring himself to hate Aerion fully, especially after seeing glances of insecurities and how his relationship is with his father (I'm not saying Maekar would become straight up abusive or something but more the complex love shown in the show with the "come here idiot." // "my boy! my boy!" put side to side).

The boiling point of it is Aerion recognizing how strong willed Dunk truly is and very persistent, the tension being evidence of that, so VERY SLOWLY but surely Dunk sees Aerion lower his fangs and starts to get the notion that he had defeated that (metaphorical) fierce dragon that seemed to protect Aerion, and slowly (because ofc if would have to be slow burn asf) they would concede that they definetely have a thing for the other, ensue the definitely freaky @ss kinks Aerion would have while they freak it out✨️✨️

When Aerion notifies his father and uncle of his intent to marry Dunk, they are obviously bewildered as they had already been searching for marriage prospects for him (though few especially after the trial because bro is a DEMON) but Aerion would have already one up them and been marked by Dunk, so there was no way of going back, the final agreement being Aerion would reject his claim to the throne in exchange to have a simple life of a noble but away from the courts and lord's eyes in order to live with Dunk, to which he agrees

From there each time they are required to attend anything regarding nobility Aerion is territorial and venomous to anyone that tries to shame or say anything about Dunk (and the kids they would prolly have by now), Baelor (king atp) and Maekar coming to the conclusion that maybe this was the best outcome for such a troublesome boy like Aerion.
