         When Alexander Luthor Sr. first approached Donald about keeping an eye on his son Lex, Donald had told him to get out of his office. He’d just left the FBI after discovering his abilities, people refused to take him seriously when they realized he’d been instinctually using his abilities in his work, and was trying to freelance as a private investigator. There was something off about the other man, something that felt wrong, but he couldn’t quite place it so when Luthor began spinning a tale of a father devastated by his son’s departure Donald found himself agreeing. 

         It didn’t hurt that he was also being paid fairly well.

         Which is what brought Donald Ressler, former special agent of the FBI, tailing some rich CEO for his father, still trying to shake that sense of wrong that he was getting from this case. By all appearances, Luthor truly was just a concerned father with too much money and free time to worry, just as he said. But he’d been with law enforcement too long to not know that sometimes the most innocent-seeming people, the ones that have your heart breaking for them, are actually the ones that will stab you in the back the second they get a chance. He wanted to believe though, so he monitored the son but kept the reports to himself until he could be sure of the father’s intentions.

     The surroundings stretching beyond Gotham’s dismal city prompts an elated breath of fresh air. It’s uncommon for Crane to travel a sizable distance, but Alexander merits the investment. Effort is exhibited both ways, and Lex should appreciate Jonathan’s effort. 

     Empty platitudes are valueless, but welcome.
