âThat Selfish Retribution You Chose Back Then:â
A small story and written analysis about my views on Fluxâs death in 2.5; where I do believe that Fluxâs choice to die by Sapsâ hand was his last act of selfishness and fundamentally, a an act of betrayal to The Conspiracy.
.
.
.
Infernus has fallen. Everyone is dead. Thomas held back a cry as he forced his body to move forward, barely being able to take another breath in with how much his chest hurts. In front of him is none other than Fluixon; worse he has ever looked, but alive. Theyâre both still alive and thatâs what matters.
They needed a way out of here, away from the hell these barbarians called justice. Thomas could still hear the cries and pleas from both sides combined, mercilessly slaughtered and painting the once so called sacred ground red.
The brunette glanced at Fluxâs limping figure; it wouldnât be long until he dropped out of exhaustion. If thatâs the case, Thomas would need to carry them both out to safety. One pat on his satchel is enough to confirm the existence of at least two golden applesâtoo little for Thomasâ liking, but there was no other choice but to push through. They can run, survive this, escape to somewhere no one can find them.
And Flux stopped dead in his tracks. The movement was sudden enough that Thomas accidentally took a few steps past him, forcing his body to pause as well. He was about to ask whatâs wrong until he gotten a glimpse of Fluxâs pale face staring onto his messenger.
âIs everything okay?â
Flux gripped the device harder, tips of his fingers turning white. His eyebrows are furrowed together, expression conflicted. A few taps in and the maleâs body language switched.
âChange of plans,â Flux curtly says. There was no other explanation, and Thomas was sure it wouldâve continued that way if it wasnât for the fact that Thomas himself forced the messenger out of Fluxâs hands.
Flux lets him, so now Thomas is forced to re-read the message sent.
âYou and me, colosseum. Itâs time to end this.â
âIâll be there.â
Conspiracy, contrary to what most would probably believe, wasnât build from dictatorship. It wasnât built from just Fluxâs choices and plans. The conspiracy wasnât Fluxâs, it was never just his. It was theirsâeven when it was just the two of them left; it wouldnât change the fact that others had died for the conspiracy.
So why was Flux throwing away what was supposed to be theirs?
An unknown sting made its way into Thomasâ chest, and he acted without thinking.
âStop.â Thomas would cut the heavy silence between them, Fluixonâs messenger gripped so tightly between his fingers that one more minute of it would make a crack. Honestly Thomas had considered breaking it, at least it would cut off this devastating communication. âWe can stop now.â
Flux froze in his spot, back turned against his friend. âI donât follow.â
âItâs time to stop, Flux.â Each words came out carefully, hesitantly. After all, it was Thomasâ first time going against Fluxâs wishes. By now the black-haired male fully turned around to face him. Their eyes stare at each other while a silent argument was exchanged. âWe can stop.â
Silence. âAnd if we did, where will we go?â
âAnywhere,â Thomas forced out a smile, but it wasnât enough to hide the tiredness in his eyes.
The message was enough; theyâve lost, and there was no place in both islands for them. The easiest and least painful thing to do was run to the edge of the world, even if it costed them their freedom, even if it costed them a life of peace. But Flux has always been a stubborn bastard. Itâs a miracle theyâve survived this long with how many impossible plans the man had laid out for them.
That stubbornness of course, costed them lives that could never be replaced. âI canât.â Even when he expected it, Thomas still felt a sharp pain stab through his chest. The man turned around, walking right towards the colosseum.
âI wont save you.â
And Flux stops again. Thomas took a deep breath. âWhen youâre bleeding out on that colosseum floor, right in front of deathâs door, I wont save you.â
âI never expected you to.â
That hurts. And Thomasâ hurt translated right into anger. âI hate you. I despise you. Youâre a selfish coward who canât do anything by yourself.â
Every word that was venomously spat out by Thomas was embraced by Flux without a second thought. âI hate you. I hate you with every single ounce of my soul. Why was I such an idiot. Why did I ever think that following you would be a right choice.â
ââŚâ
âDie. I hope you fucking rot alone. I hope you regret your whole life when youâre dying alone in that place.â
ââŚâ
âThrowing my life away, my future, my country, my morality, my brotherâall of that away for someone like you.â The last word was spat out like nothing more than trash. âGodâyou narcissistic, egoistical maniacââ
âWell at least I fucking did something!â Flux screamed right back, âwhat did you ever do Thomas? All you did was obediently stand behind me and never once did you interject nor stop any of my plans before.â
âYou cry about the unfairness of this all, grief all you want about lost lives but guess what? You cannot blame me for every single thing that went wrong because itâs still your choice.â
âYou can call me anything you want but never forget that itâs you who chose this life. It was you who chose to do this. It was you who chose me.â
Thomas was silent, silenced. They both stare at each other with a million unspoken thoughts and emotions bleeding out from their eyes. While it was easy to mistake their argument for hatred that was buried for years, it didnât erase the fact that there was heartbreak behind themâfor different reasons, and reasons that they somehow cannot accept. With an intake of breath, Thomasâ shoulders slumped. âThatâs right,â Thomas muttered, âI did choose you, didnât I?â
âI chose you over my future. I chose you over my brother. I chose you over my life.â
Fluxâs bottom lips trembled. âYou did.â
Silence. The violet eyed man continues, âso now, will you choose me again?â
With a small shake of his head, Thomas answers. âI cant.â He wonders if Flux felt the same sharp pain in his chest like Thomas did.
âI see.â Pause. âGoodbye Thomas.â
âGoodbye Flux.â
Yet they walked side by side towards the colosseum, sat beside one another up until Saparata showed up with nothing more than anger and bitterness behind his stare.
âCanât say no to a friend, can I?â
You could. Just not him. Thomas bit back his words until his lips started bleeding.
When Saparata was seconds away from dealing the final blow, Thomas knows he couldâve pulled out his crossbow and shoot the other right in the neck. It wouldâve been an instant kill, an easy one compared to all their hard-work making sure Saps died all those months back. But Thomas didnât move. Even when Fluxâs chest was pierced with a sword. Even when the lights in his violet eyes disappeared. Even when heâs gently being cradled by Saps, Thomas didnât move.
For once, he didnât choose Flux.
.
.
.
Fundamentally, I do think Flux choosing to die by Saps hands was his last act of selfishness. Despite their (many) wrongdoingsâwhich includes but not limited to acts of terrorismâI think The Conspiracy had acted not out of pure malice, but paranoia. They believed Island 1 would attack them not through a what-if scenario, but through anti-island 2 propaganda that had massively spread. Their actions were the direct consequence of it; both the fear and from the frustration of leaders not doing anything to protect their people.
(Ironically in the end, The Conspiracy could only run to the same people theyâve villainized this whole time.)
That being said, I donât believe in the slightest that The Conspiracy is built through a singular leadership. It was never just Flux and his followers; but a group of people with the same beliefs while Flux just happens to have the right position to be called a leader considering heâs second in command in Luminara. Of course, this doesnât demolish his leadership in any way, but a reminder that every member of The Conspiracy chose that path willingly. They didnât do it just for Flux, but because have their own personal beliefs and values.
Almost all members had lost their lives exactly for that reasonâthey had believed in The Conspiracy enough to accept that perhaps death is necessary. They all died for The Conspiracy.
But then unlike most Conspiracy members, ironically enough; Flux died for his own retribution, not for his beliefs. I believe that he chose to die by Saps hands because it was the one last act of apology he could do for his friend. Fluxâs statement before their fightââIâm sorry you had to go through all of that.ââwas never anything but sincere. With quite literally nothing to lose, Flux abandoned the one thing he had built brick by brick; his beliefs.
Flux did not die for the conspiracy. He did not die for his beliefs that he pushed so hard for. Instead, he chose repentance. He was the only member of The Conspiracy who had the chance to repent and apologize; others killed before being able to, or died with their beliefs. Him choosing to die by Saps hands is quite literally him abandoning all that he worked so hard for this whole time and leaving behind the trust he and The Conspiracy built
And thatâs where it differs with Thomas. While Thomas didnât exactly die for the conspiracy, he died trying to justify their beliefs. He died trying to tell the world that they have their reasons, they have their own story, and nothing about it will be regretted.
These are reasons why I believe Flux choosing to die in Sapsâ hand, at the end of the day, was an act of selfishness. It was an act of selfishness because heâdespite being the appointed leader of The Conspiracyâhad abandoned every single beliefs he has and in return, abandoned his friends who walked that path with him. He was the only member to not die for their cause, but for his own.
It made me wonder if there would be anger between them, between their last moments together knowing that Flux practically chose to throw everything away. Would there be grief? Would there be denial? Would there be disappointment? Would there be bitterness knowing that only Flux had the chance to repent?
Would there be, no matter how small it is, hatred against the person who was supposed to fight for them until the end?
Sitzkrieg: Hey Koru what's up big dawg? Korulein: We don't call eachother that. Sitzkrieg: Sorry. I was trying something new
In my opinion , I feel like if Trihelm became a thing in 2.5 and wasnât just discussed as an option it would realistically be like Harvest and Cynikkaâs relationship , only a bit more strained because of them both having completely different nations(culture specifically too) to rule over rather than the one Harvest and Cyn had .
It wouldâve been more of a political marriage rather than love because if one side didnât know it was happening and the other only heard it was being planned it definitely qualifies as a political one . Along with this , even if we donât characterise Jophiel as her stereotype I feel like their personalities would clash more-so .
Not a hate post , but just my opinion on what Trihelm wouldâve became realistically .
does anyone fw ram saps
