see, the problem with this is nobody can agree what the "middle ground" actually is. for some people a kink like, for example, painplay is the most morally reprehensible, extreme thing there is, whereas for other people it's super vanilla, barely even considered a kink at all. how do you decide who is right? how do you decide which kinks are not too extreme, and which ones are? you could say "well EVERYONE agrees XYZ kink is extreme" but... does everyone? I never even CONSIDERED that feral porn could be considered "extreme" until I saw people clutching their pearls over it for lusthounds, and I've been talking kink with people for ages. is oviposition extreme? is furry porn extreme? I don't know, because no single person seems to agree.

in the end, trying to create a "moderately kinky" space won't work because everyone's idea of "moderately kinky" is different. censorship is a slippery slope, because doubtlessly you will get users demanding the censorship of a kink that you wouldn't consider extreme at all. the best solution remains a robust tagging system, which, from what I've read, lusthounds implemented.

I think it's ridiculous that people have forgotten that fiction is a safe space to explore your darker side, simply for the fact that its fiction. toyhouse allows everything that lusthounds is allowing, and lusthounds isn't allowing loli/shota/cub from the looks of it, which IS against toyhouse rules, so they're following toyhouses rules.

if you have an issue with ehat lusthounds is allowing, you also need to have an issue with toyhouse and it's rules itself.

noncon, incest, dubcon and all of that is all easily accessible in writing and books as well, and HIGHLY sought after, but I don't see that get the same censorship/hatred that users on toyhouse give to kink in artist adult spaces.

Lusthounds has maturelocked all their threads, they've clearly labeled their content and target audience with a disclaimer that states what they allow, and even have rules regarding how their kinks should be censored, which again fan be found in the disclaimer, AND on their community survey form, they ask for help regarding lore surrounding ace hounds in a primary sex centered community as well as transgender hounds in a species that can actively shape-shift.

I'd say they're doing a damn good job at making sure their community is safe and inclusive, and have made sure to warn people themselves about what their community allows. at this point, they're doing nothing wrong and are following all toyhouse rules. yall are just mad that they're allowing things you don't personally like.

you need to step up and take responsibility for curating your own space.

I want to make it similar to Lusthounds, but ban any fully non-consensual or illegal dynamics from being shared in the species’ spaces (like adult and minor/pedophilia, beastiality, etc). Everything else is free game. CNC? Inflation? Vore? Feet? Go crazy.

Do I make it 21+ just to follow in some other adult closed species’ footsteps? Do I make it 18+ and just utilize age roles? I want to ensure everyone is comfortable where I can, but simultaneously I don’t want to barricade anyone who is legally of age to engage in NSFW content.

Making it 18+ and using age roles seems like the best approach. It avoids restricting anyone who is legally of age to participate, and age roles give members agency over what age ranges they interact with as well.

Going 21+ can make sense if you want a smaller, more curated community or if you’re trying to match the culture of similar species, but it’s mostly a comfort and moderation choice, not a legal necessity. If the only reason is “other adult species do it,” that alone probably isn’t strong enough justification.

On that note, it’s not an issue to start with a 21+ restriction and later shift to 18+ if you want to test the waters first and adjust the age limit if you change your mind.

(On an unrelated note, you may want to clarify the distinction between what counts as “fully non-consensual” and what falls under “CNC.” Does this mean that only non-consensual scenes with aftercare and/or pre-scene negotiation are allowed? Or is it sufficient for the player to include a disclaimer stating that the depicted situation is a roleplay scenario and that all characters involved consent to it?

Providing a clear, specific list of what is and isn’t allowed for your species is always helpful, and it’s best to avoid vague terms like “taboo,” “problematic,” or “illegal,” as they can be easily misinterpreted.)

Promoting and allowing are very different things. This whole species allows what Toyhouse itself allowed. You should get off Toyhouse if allowing these topics is “promoting”
