On Eclipse Energy
Since eclipse season begins tonight, I wanted to take a moment to talk about eclipses. All eclipses fall on the lunar nodal axis point - a opposition point that moves backwards through the horoscope. That means that eclipses happen, literally, when the Sun, Moon, and our lovely Earth fall into alignment with one another. Eclipses come in pairs* - the lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes between the Moon and the Sun and the solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. This happens during the full moon and new moon, respectively.
This is what creates eclipse magic!
To truly understand the magic of the eclipses, you need to understand what the lunar nodes represent. You have the two nodes: the North Node in one sign and the South Node in the opposite sign in the horoscope - said very simplistically, the N. Node represents “where we are going” and the S. Node represents “where we’ve been”. They can be compared further to lunar energy - the N. Node is like a new moon, full of new potential and the S. Node is like the full moon, ready for release.
Do you see where I am going yet?
What that means is each pair* of eclipses has its own “new moon” and “full moon” like energy associated with it that can work with or add to the ACTUAL energy of the new moon and full moon!
I will use this eclipse cycle as an example. Tomorrow, 11/30, is a eclipsed full moon in the sign of Gemini. Normally, full moon energy is about culmination and release. BUT, because our N. Node is IN Gemini, we add the energy of new potential - as if it was a new moon - to this energy of release.
Likewise, our upcoming eclipsed new moon in Sagittarius on 12/14 falls on the S. Node axis. The S. Node is a time of release so you will see an energy of release added to the normal potential of the new moon energy.**
Said again - both our upcoming lunar and solar eclipses will bring us both the energy of new beginning and release AT THE SAME TIME. This, I think, is why many witches find doing magic on eclipses to be so “unpredictable” - if you are not working with both energies, it would be easy for things to go awry. After all, you don’t want to bring in something that you are trying to release or release something you are trying to bring in.
I hope that you find this as fascinating as I do! And happy eclipse season!

* Occasionally threes but I digress ** On the other half of the year, we will see the opposite with a super charged new moon and full moon but I digress
