Wheel of the year
The myth of Ceridwen and Gwion
a Celtic cosmology....
Goddess Ceridwen greeting card by Karen Cater
Ceridwen is Queen of the West, Water and Autumn, she is the initiator of all magic and queen of witches in Welsh mythology. Ceridwen guards the western gate with Fal for the north, Lug for the east, and Nuada for the south. His animal is the serpent.
Wife of Tegid Foel, she gives birth to two completely opposite children: Morvran (nicknamed Afangddu or Avangddu) who was considered the ugliest man on earth, and a beautiful daughter, Creirwy. Unable to tolerate her son Afangddu's handicap, Ceridwen boiled a potion of knowledge in a cauldron for a year and a day to enable him to become wise and respected.
She entrusted the task of watching over the cauldron to Morda and Gwion Bach, but a drop fell on the latter's finger, he licked it and so he received the gift instead of Afangddu. Furious, Ceridwen pursued Gwion Bach who transformed himself many times to escape her. He ended up changing into a grain of wheat and Ceridwen, transformed into a black hen, took the opportunity to eat him.
Some time later, she gave birth to the famous poet and druid Taliesin (who is actually the reincarnation of Gwion Bach).
Ceridwen's Cauldron by Yuri Leitgh
Making plans for celebration this August first for this Lammas. I want to offer grace and gratitude for what I’ve received, and sit with the gifts I’ve received, even if I am not aware of it.
I want to thank my spirits, ancestors, and this universe for giving me what I need even prior to knowing it.
It’s a metaphorical definition of reaping what i’ve sown for this year, and what people have given me. My time to say thank you to myself, and realize that in the midst of stress and fear there are good things.
What are your plans for lammas?
• lammas '20 • purification ritual • wrote about emotional blocks and burdens in my relationships, wrapped the paper around a few stones and threw it in the lake • my gift to myself this harvest is to stop carrying the things i shouldn't • birch water for renewal and healing • berries for joy •

She died for us. Perhaps not us in specific, not here and not now, but she died for us just the same. She died preparing the land for a harvest that would feed a nation and more for a year and then some, and she died doing more. For on her death we sport and we drink, we feast and we marry and we see a harvest in the coming distance. And from her death we can learn so much more. Of cycles and necessity, of sacrifice and fight and how to find joy. So on this day this Lughnasad let us remember her for whom the games are named: Tailtiu of Meath
Faun – Sonnenreigen (Lughnasad)
Gaelic festival marking the start of harvest season, usually celebrated August 1st or 2nd.
I reset my altar for Lughnasadh, so I’ll be ready and not forget the holiday this year 😌✨
I dedicated a corner of my room to all my witchy supplies, it’s so cozy~
