I received an email from Monorail yesterday announcing the release of Luft "Something on My Mind b/w God Helmet" on British label Tough Love. I remember hearing about this release a few months ago and forgetting to listen. I was drawn to the release because (1) it was on Tough Love and (2) it was the new band from former TOY frontman Tom Dougall (whose sister was in The Pipettes!). I looked for background on the other members and either I didn't look hard enough or Dougall surrounded himself with relative newcomers.

Luft (Berlin, Germany) is a logical extension of Toy, so expect a similar line of sound. I will say that "Something On My Mind" has an immediacy to it - it grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go. I listened to it multiple times until I had to buy the 12" and pay import fees, which I really don't do very much these days. In this way, Luft reminds me of how Massage's "I'm Going in a Field" took hold of me (and still has me!).
