I’ve never found a naruto fic I liked more than Torrid… but A NEW CHALLENGER HAS APPEARED. I read this fic recently and it’s so beautifully written and I am blown away.

…And I saved Torrid for last. Unforgettable Torrid. The one fic that has held the title of my favorite sns fic of all time. I didn’t think it would be, considering how it starts. It’s toxic, it’s painful, it has cheating. But here’s the thing. I really like when stories tackle love with all the grace of a baby deer learning to walk for the first time. As in, it’s bad, not graceful in the slightest, you’re going to mess up big time and probably fall on your face. You don’t even know HOW to love. It’s a story about learning to love for real. Not lust or obsession, but real love: "Is that it? Is that right? Is that the way it feels when you're not with the person you love?"
I also like that the author chose to highlight all the characters flaws. No sanitizing; you’re going to see them at their absolute worst. Mistakes are made and consequences are suffered. I like it when characters have a choice to make and choose wrong. I like it when characters are torn between romantic love and familial duty. When characters were raised wrong and have built these horrible defense mechanisms learned from every authority figure in their life. When characters feel the frustration and terror of not knowing how to change and losing everything they love as a result of it!! Because change isn’t easy; it takes strength, conviction, fearlessness, and it doesn’t happen in the blink of an eye! What does a story look like when you are afraid of truly giving someone your heart because everyone in your life has always stomped on it or tried to control you, when you have the urge to conform and subdue your authentic self because you’ve seen the effects of ostracism, and when you’d rather give up your own autonomy if it means acceptance… Basically “and now i find that i’ve grown into a tall child” the novel.
Reading this was a journey & I adored the ending. Even though it’s fiction, it inspired me. Reminded me that it’s still possible to change even if you’ve done awful things and feel like you don’t deserve forgiveness or anything good. I first read this 11 years ago and I’ve re-read this more times than I can count. I recently re-read this, thinking I might have had rose-tinted glasses and it wasn’t as good as I remembered, but no. It may be a bit dated, it may have pacing issues, but it still holds a special place in my heart. If I could print it out and eat it, I would. I genuinely like all of the fics on this list, but I have a favorite and it’s this one ❤️❤️❤️)

HIRANO AND KAGIURA CANON REAL!?? ok so for chapter 34, i was just hoping we’d get to hear hirano’s thoughts in the bathroom stall. i was hoping for an “i really love him” or maybe we’d get to see hirano’s jealousy take over for ONE SECOND. i thought we’d have to wait until hirano graduated for them to get together (and maybe see the forbidden promise ring. i have not and will never forget the ring). this story that I’ve been reading since 2021 has been giving such slowburn vibes… AND YET!!! you mean to tell me they say that they’re together in CHAPTER 34!?? IN THE SUMMER OF HIRANO’S THIRD YEAR 😭😭🥹!!! i had a thought that they were already together in hirano’s head, just based on how he’s been around kagi, but i really didn’t think it’d be confirmed so soon!!! i thought they’d keep tip-toeing around it for years, never saying it out loud. harusono shou i owe you my life i am so happy that this story exists you literally have no idea 🌸🌸🌸
The way this scene made me sob twice. Even though Dr. Robby’s hurting, lashing out, and currently undergoing a mental health crisis, he still takes a moment to comfort this crying baby. He comforts her the way he wishes somebody would’ve comforted him. And I just kept thinking to myself how unbearably hard it must be to take care of others, to be in a position where people look to you for guidance, and to also be in so much pain you no longer want to be anywhere anymore. Especially when your heart is this big. I don’t think he’s leaving that ER for good. Maybe once he spends some time without it, he’ll discover ways to cope with that drowning feeling. I hope he discovers how much he misses the people that work there and begins to rely on them more. As someone who works in healthcare, you can have really really heavy days, but leaning on the people who are working with you does make the days less heavy sometimes.
Man, what a season. I’m gonna miss this show. But also if I ever see Noah Wyle, it’s on sight for making me cry.

recommending hirano to kagiura (the holy grail of slow burns) to other people is hard because how do i say “ok so there’s this really good slice of life roommates to best friends to lovers slow burn. chapter 1 technically starts on volume 2 of this other manga called sasaki to miyano. well, if you count the prequel it actually starts as a spin-off light novel. anyway, the manga yes, it’s called sasaki to miyano go to the extra bonus chapters at the end of the volumes that’s where hirano to kagiura’s story starts. after you’ve read all the bonus chapters you can start the spin-off manga called hirano to kagiura.
it updates every 2-3 months. we’ve already had a confession scene and they’re still not together. one of the leads straight up turned down the other guy but they’re in some schrodinger’s cat kind of relationship. they hold hands and hug and stuff but only for 10 seconds per day. kagiura is a giant basketball guy with big puppy dog “good boy” energy. a bit of a brat. teensy bit stubborn and possessive. he can ask for whatever he wants because he’s special and he knows it. and then there’s hirano. don’t even get me started on that pretty boy. kagiura was doomed to fall in love with hirano the day they met and this scary blond boy started calling him “kagi-kun”.
look at this aro/ace king. he’s never had a crush in his life. hirano is a walking contradiction. he’s a “former bad boy” who’s now a member of the disciplinary committee club. a grumpy boy with straight A’s, earrings, bleached hair and a soft spot for his roommate. calls him cute nicknames and dotes on him (ie: wakes him up every day, eats the food he doesn’t want, goes to his basketball games, tutors him, compliments him all the time, gets mad at him when he tries to create distance, has the biggest smile around only him, can never say no to him). except he can say no to him because of course he turned the guy down and yet. he is still willing to… try. a little trial relationship of sorts. because it’s kagiura. his roomie and his bestie. and i just
