like okay I realized while I was out for a smoke that if she’s still alive to see Abby, Lucy is SO protective of Abby because she’s the result of the union of both of her perfect beautiful children (eww Lucy just eww), though of course she probably has no idea how abusive and horrible Rose is because Rose is so good at pretending to be nice in front of people and ‘there can’t possibly be anything wrong with my perfect angel of a daughter,’ so she’s kind of useless in the protecting Abby department but she DOES shower her with gifts and kisses whenever she’s over. (For some reason I have a thing for the ‘miserable kid/abusive parents/doting but oblivious and useless grandma’ trope? See also: Katrin Dolohov to Lise. And Denise’s mum Phoebe Knowles would have been like this too if Denise allowed her parents any contact with the family...but she doesn’t.) 

Also one of my feedist friends was texting me about xmas feedist stuff (it’s definitely a thing in our circle) and then I made myself SADDER thinking about how much Lise wanted to make xmas a big deal the first year she and Phillip were married. cause she knew how his parents were and how they probably never did xmas proper and she was probably psyching herself up weeks in advance because ‘FUCK yeah you and me are going to have a GOOD, NORMAL holiday season for once. turkey. eggnog. the works. everyone gains weight because it’s fucking CHRISTMAS and that’s how it’s supposed to WORK.’ but then as the date approaches the flashbacks start coming more and more frequently so she’s drinking and smoking and doing everything in her power to fend off the ghosts of her past, at the expense of her ability to function, and xmas morning finds her in a daze facedown on the floor with no feeling in her face, eyeliner tears smudged down her cheeks and she can’t remember what day of the week it is or even her own name...I mean yes she’s a murdering shit but she’s also deeply tortured and damaged
