In the society he had the unfortunate fortune of living, a vampire royal held no status if they did not have at least one human per vampire in the household to drink from. They were seen as weak, pitying humans instead of ruling over them like the vampire lords had believed they did.
One of the Duval household’s slaves had just perished and Lucian was tasked with purchasing another before the week’s end. But they had to be strong, able to last the household at least a few months of feedings.
So here the older vampire was, at the auction house. He had taken his time to view all of the merchandise he could, furious at the state in which most of the humans were being kept. Honestly, how could they expect the mortals to survive a few feedings from multiple vampires if they didn’t keep said mortals fit?
But a few had caught his eye and he found himself in front of the dark haired female yet again, eyeing her up and down silently.
