The next two days were full of nothing but sleeping and recovering for Alexander. If she hadn’t known about him being supernatural, she would have no way to doubt it now. A complete shattered spinal injury would not even be partially healed in that short amount of time. But by the end of the third day in her home, Alexander was able to get up and move slowly around the house, enabling him to stretch his achy, healing muscles.

The shifter knew what he should do, especially after all of her kindness. But he was nervous to reveal his power to anyone. He walked up and pawed at her leg when she had gone to the kitchen. 

“Hi sweet boy, what’s wrong?” Nyssa looked down when the fox pawed her leg and smiled at him, crouching to pet him. “Are you hungry? Do you need to go outside?”

Alexander’s tail flicked and he shook his head. He took a few steps away from her and looked back to make sure she was following. He wandered back to the bedroom and grabbed a blanket off with his teeth. The fox watched her for a moment, his tail flicking nervously. He huffed before burrowing under the blanket.

Alexander hunkered down, closing his eyes and letting out a deep sigh. In moments, the sound of bones shifting accompanied the growing form under the blanket. Hesitantly, Alexander raised his head and peeked out at her, still hunched under the blanket. “Hello,” he said softly, still not positive how she would react.

Going over the back door she slipped her shoes on. “Go see if anybody else wants to go for a walk.” The dog trotted off as she stepped out the door, but not before grabbing her keys. “Hey guys im going for a walk!” She yelled out. To most it would seem like she was talking to herself, but she knew that at least one of her siblings would hear. Soon the fluffy dog came back with a jacket in its mouth, a mix of other size and breed dogs following along. “Yea Yea I know. I swear you are worse than Abe. Let’s go.” Grabbing the jacket she slipped it on before heading out into the woods.

It had been a long time since Lucian had had a true meal. Most of the time, he relied on blood bags and other “findings” from the hospital. But this man had provoked him at the bar and he wasn’t having it. It didn’t help that it was a full moon and he felt the pull of the magic in the air strongly.

Matthew was glad to hear that she didn’t intend to jump, but knew that that could easily just be a ploy to get him to leave. He kept his hands up in front of him so he came off as nonthreatening, but his muscles were tensed and ready to lunge and catch her if he needed to. He noticeably relaxed when she finally turned to him. 

He frowned at her abrupt change of subject, glancing back at Chief before returning his gaze to the woman. “Yeah. Chief, come!” he barked out and the dog came bounding over, obediently stopping and sitting once he reached Matthew’s side, the service vest much more obvious up close. Matthew reflexively reached down to pet his head, though his focus was still on the woman. Her 180 change had him confused, but he was glad that he could provide a distraction even if she had said she was fine.

“No, he doesn’t have any allergies.” If she wanted to offer the dog a treat, he’d allow it, implicitly trusting her not to give Chief something that would hurt him.

A human voice was not what he expected to hear accompanying the smell of dogs and really hoped he hadn’t run into a werewolf’s territory, knowing the trouble he could get into for not announcing his arrival to the Alpha, even if it had been completely unintentional.

Alexander learned from his mistake and slowly rose his head from his knee, warily looking at the woman as she approached him from the pack of what seemed to be regular dogs.

“Yes,” he coughed, his voice still rough from the water he’d inhaled, “Yes, I know English. Can you tell me where I am?” he had to try and keep his supernatural abilities hidden as long as he could, knowing all too well how terribly some people reacted to them. From the depth of the gash, at least, he knew he had at least an hour before it started showing obvious signs of advanced healing.

“Oh good. You’re in the middle of Willow Creek nature reserve. I see you have already made yourself acquainted with the creek.” of course ‘creek’ was just a ironic title for the giant ass river that ran through the reserve. Hearing a cautious growl behind her she reached behind and patted one of the smaller dogs on the head. “Little late with that reaction sweet pea.”

Every now and then, Alexander liked transforming and going for a late night run through the forest. He loved the feeling of the wind in his fur and the way everything looked different through different eyes and from a different perspective. Even after three centuries, Alexander still got a rush every time he ran through the familiar trees in a different body.

Tonight, the ashen fur of his fox pelt donned his body and he yipped in excitement when he heard the distant roll of thunder. He loved the feel of storms through his fur, the rain, the sound as it hit the leaves, the feel of the static from the electricity coursed through his fur. It was exhilarating.

When the first raindrops hit, Alexander jumped in and out of tree cover, not paying attention to how close the road was getting. Before he knew it, he was blinded by headlights and there was searing pain running through his body.
