La Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne (FCFA) est toujours sous le choc suite à la décision du CRTC d’éliminer progressivement, d’ici 2014, le Fonds d’amélioration de la programmation locale (FAPL). La problématique est la suivante: la disparition de cette source de financement pour les stations de télévision locale risque fort d’avoir un impact majeur sur l’accès des communautés à des émissions et des nouvelles locales en français. «Pour la majorité de nos communautés, la seule source de programmation télé locale en français, c’est Radio-Canada. Considérant les compressions budgétaires que la société d’État a dû encaisser en mars, et sachant que c’est le FAPL qui a permis en bonne partie de maintenir les acquis dans nos communautés, il est clair que l’on doit s’attendre à des conséquences très néfastes», a déclaré la présidente de la FCFA, Marie-France Kenny.

Translation: The Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne is still shocked following the CRTC's decision to phase out, by 2014, the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF). The problem is that the disappearance of this source of funding for local television stations may have a major impact on the communities' access to programming and local news in French.

It's a pretty big deal for the French communities that only have access to one source of programming in French, which is Radio-Canada. So considering that the FAPL contributed a lot and that the government made a lot of budget cuts, things aren't looking good.
