Lauren and I had a skyping-and-sketching session this evening and did portraits of each other! So fun and good practice, it is nice to struggle side by side with a friend ;____;

Totally fine, i hear ya. Exploring different body shapes in our art and throughout media in general (games and films perhaps?), it would definitely help people accept their natural body types without comparing ourselves so often.

Even as i’ve gotten thinner, i’m self-conscious of the weird double-hip thing i have. I’ve always compared myself to ladies with the “smooth line” silhouette… so you’re not alone? i guess is what i’m saying??
Yeah I definitely think this applies to thin DFAB people too. While abstraction is useful and effective, we still can't get away from some really problematic ideas about bodies and tend to incorporate them into our artwork... Eliminating that natural "double hip" is really common and problematic in a lot of abstraction, and the "smooth line" is still upheld as ideal.
tl;dr I appreciate the solidarity.
Hope it's okay I published this? I'll take it down if youd like.
