Michael Red - Gwey From

lowi010. Gorgeous track here from Michael Red, off his latest EP for his own Low Indigo label, entitled ‘9 of cats’. ‘gwey from’ plods along in stunning free-form fashion, both soothing and surprising. This latest EP oozes confidence, and showcases Red’s considerable sonic range. 

okpk - private channels

lowi009. Victoria-based artist okpk returns to local label Low Indigo with a fresh set of exploratory hip-hop tracks. Definitely feeling the grime palette of closing track ‘private channels’. This one follows up the IDM feel of the ‘2010′ EP, released on the label back in 2013.

Kline - Ghost EP

lowi006. Kline returns to upstart Vancouver label Low Indigo with the sublime 'Ghost' EP, the label's sixth release and first since last spring. The EP was inspired by a paranormal encounter the artist experienced this past year. 

Each of the 6 tracks bleed gracefully into the next, with the sinister glide of the opening track setting the tone nicely. The crystalline 'Don't Tell Me' follows, with its sweeping pads and innovative percussive patterns. The weightless ambience of 'looking over my shoulder' then leads into the EP's stark centrepiece, 'love light', a spirited collaboration with vocalist Francesca Belcourt. The disjointed hip-hop of 'heartless vip', a rework of a track from last year's excellent Mirror EP, drives the release home with style. Overall, 'Ghost' is a refined release, revealing a further maturation of Kline's production skills. It's a logical evolution of sound from one of Western Canada's most promising artists. 

Vancouver artist Endtask provides the visual accompaniment here, a rich, textured depiction of the EP's powerful sonic landscape. HD is highly recommended here. The 'Ghost' EP is out now on Low Indigo. Also be sure to grab the free download of 'Don't Tell Me', over at XLR8R.
