Winter Snark 2013 After-Action Report
Okay, this is going to be much more personal than a straight "report," but you get what I mean.
I couldn't make it to the pre-Snark festivities because I had to work Friday. Â That's okay. Â I would have loved to have made it, but I didn't. Â Boo to me.
My Saturday began at work in the morning. Â I had to go in to make sure that the folks printed reports so that they didn't waste the weekend. Â Good thing I did, too, because, of course, they did forget.
I brought my overnight bag with me. Â I went straight from work to the train station. Â I made it to Penn Station around 2pm, and made it to Times Square shortly after. Â My plan was to take the 7 from Times Square to Grand Central. Â As soon as I got to Times Square, though, there was an announcement that the 7 wasn't running due to construction. Â So I got out of the station and walked.
Oh, my gods, that was a mistake.  First of all, I got out on the wrong side of Times Square station, and got a little disoriented.  To me, "Times Square" is on 42nd St, but somehow, I ended up on 40th St.  I was going in generally the right direction, but I was too far south.  This took me nearly four blocks to figure out, so I'm walking down these four blocks not recognizing anything.  The entire way, I'm thinking "Well, I should be able to see the UN building from here, so something isn't right."  Once I corrected my course, though, I was fine.
The UN Millennium hotel is a beautiful hotel, but very pricey.  If you can afford it, by all means do it if only once in your life.
After getting to the hotel, resting from walking around Manhattan for nearly an hour, taking a shower, and shaving, it was time for the main event (ding!).
I arrived a little after 8. Â I believe the first person I saw was cutlerish, and I shook his hand. By the way, he got bombed Saturday night.
Anyway, I eventually made it to Sarkastickunt and gave her a very warm hug and thanked her for putting this together. Michele, anytime you need help with something, I will do my best to support you in any way I can. Consider it giving back to Snark that which it has given unto me.
Another person I saw was titsandsass. Kris hugged the shit out of me, and I gave her one back. She is funny and nice. I told her that I was glad she clarified her Twitter name (@lcspt) because I thought it stood for âlick spit.â Since it sounds like something Kris would say or do, I accepted that. She laughed, and told me that there was another person (I can't remember who now) that thought the exact same thing.
I got goodybrains and timbalanced at some point. We had some great laughs (mostly at Timâs expense).
When whiteelephantintheroom and I first made eye contact with each other, she waved to me very excitedly from the other side of the room and I waved back. When she finally made it to me, she hugged me very tightly. I told her that I had preordered her book. She gave me a cool bookmark for it when it arrived. TrÊ is the coolest chick ever.
Criticalpax and I had bonded the previous Snark (summer 2012), but in this one, she seemed so much more relaxed, so much freer than she was in the previous one. In that one, I was concerned that she was having a horrible time. In this one, she was dancing and having a good time.
Let's see. I had met loverofleaving at the previous Snark (when she was known under a different tumblr name), but didn't realize it until after Snark. I told her she reminded me of someone, and she said that she thought she knew whom I was talking about, but we both had a brain miasma moment and couldn't think of the name âKristen Chenoweth.â I explained that I hoped that she took that as a compliment. Melanie is so cute and petite (and southern.... Sigh), I just wanted to fold her up, put her in my pocket, and take her home with me where she can curl up in my lap (what little of it is left) and tell me stories.
Other than the brief thing at the doors to the hotel, I first met sometimesshespeaks at Snark. She is very pretty, and I had a hard time not stealing glances at her the entire time, but I didnât want to be one of those guys⌠you know: the ones who go to Snark thinking theyâre going to get laid. But every time I would look at her, my heart would ache.
I got a little buzzed (there were some that got really drunk), and had a great time, and met some great people.
My thanks go to Michele for putting this event together.
Up next: the 12-hour Sunday brunch with the internets.
