                                   Seabrook - The Dark Verse

Seabrook is the family paradise, it has no crime, no poverty and no pushing. Everything is always absolutely fine here. The sky is always clear, the women have perfect smiles and the clothes are all freshly pressed and full of pastels. The zombie outbreak was handled long ago with the monsters caged off behind a wall in a society of their own and perfectly handled with their Z-bands, a marvel to modern technology. Underneath the perfectly normal paradise lays a darker seed. What remains unspoken is that quite a bit of work goes into creating and maintaining such perfection. Armoured trucks will ride into the gated ghettos only to return filled with a few zombies plucked quietly from their homes. They are brought underground into tunnels for testing, on further zombie advancements. When women reach a certain age it’s time for them to be programmed. Deep in the mens club a hallway leads to this very institution floors below and put in connection with the Zombie labs.

+ At 16 Addison has been taken in for her reconditioning, a few small microchips in the brain and a flawed young lady would exit refined beyond all repair just as a Seabrook resident should. The perfect future wife.

+ At 16 Zed has been taken for groundbreaking research on how to keep the desire for brain eating gone whilst also making the Zombies all but brain dead and easily commanded. The perfect slave.

+With cells at the tail end of both of their sectors, where human meets zombie, Addison and Zed share a wall. Both are under the impression that the other is like them and steadily their love grows before they’re confronted with the ugly truth of who the other truly is. As Addison’s changes begin to come on stronger and feeling herself slowly losing her identity to becoming Casey the pair realise that it’s now or never that they break out and run away together. Even if it means leaving everyone else and everything else behind.

Addison reached her finger tips through the chainlink fence separating them to thread them through his own. It was a miracle that they’d found a corner of the yard that offered them some semblance of privacy. Things had been getting harder and harder recently and yet the fact that they’d managed to finally meet, to finally see each other’s faces, turning him from just a voice on the other side of the wall to a real person, or well zombie. The blonde tried in vain to steady her breath and hold back the wave of tears that had come forward. Nodding she knew down to her very bones that Zed was telling her the truth, because she’d do the same. No matter what stood between them she’d search for him until it killed her. Because at some point between first meeting and now he’d become everything to her. The one steady part of her day. 

Addison looked up at him solemnly they’d been waiting for this for so long, had barely truly known each other she supposed with the surprise of him being a Zombie, but the fact was she’d fallen so deeply and helplessly in love with him. It felt at times as if it was what she was made for, to be with him. Even if that meant living a life beside a wall with a voice. “I wish we could go.” She whispered softly her grip tightened as she tried to step even closer to the fence. It seemed greedy that now she wished for even more, to hold him. It would feel so good in this moment to have one minute even one second to hold him. “I want to go. Then we wouldn’t have to ever find each other.” They’d just be together, the horrifying moment when they’d strapped her down and knocked her out wouldn’t happen again. She wouldn’t wake up again to a soreness at the base of her head to just the left where there were now nearly healed stitches. A wonderful aspect of modern medicine. “Just us.” It was all she needed now.

declan lynch is lucky. when he was younger, all he wanted was this: a home, a steady job, silk sheets & framed photographs of his wedding on the dresser. now he has it, and the worst part of his day is when his alarm goes off and he’s forced to leave his bed. considering how bad some of his days have been in the past ... yeah. he’s LUCKY.

his phone chimes with an important email before the alarm even rings. declan sighs, but before he can reach for it, faith wraps her arms round him, effectively distracting him. she’s unexpectedly forceful, but it’s one of declan’s favourite things about faith: when she makes DEMANDS, when she knows what she wants and asks for it. it’s especially gratifying when what she wants is declan.

he is tempted, oh so tempted, to stay here all day, wrapped up in her lips and her body, her soft hair twisted around his fingers. it might even be possible, with a little COMPROMISE. he tugs his wrists free from her grip to run his fingertips along her spine, glancing over at his phone on the floor thoughtfully.

“ why. ” declan’s voice is a growl, as it often is when dealing with ronan. “ can’t you just let me do the talking, for god’s sake ? ” it’s like this every time they plan a deal, because ronan won’t stay behind and let declan do his job: he always wants to witness the hand-over, see what their customers think of his CREATIONS.

on its own, this would be fine. but ronan invariably follows up by asking for far more money than his creation is worth --- an amount declan has always agreed in advance with their buyer --- then imply that their buyer is too stupid to know how to operate the object; and generally act like such a SHITHEEL that even declan wants to shoot him.

wendy lays her book down obligingly; the ALLURE of pirates & forbidden romance fades when her brother is radiating such acute discomfort. her fingers trace the embossed cover as ben speaks.

head tilts, absorbing a sentiment that she herself has wondered about before. but wendy is the youngest of three girls, and she thinks that her parents don’t have anything particularly GRAND in mind for her. she fears she would not live up to high expectations, not if they’re all being measured to helen’s standard, at least. “ i don’t mind it, ” she says, finally. “ the acting, i mean. ” once upon a time, they made it into a game: they were undercover spies, and no one at their parents’ fundraiser was allowed to discover their true identities.
