I wanna talk about 1963 lotf film because itās my favorite adaptation and I LOVEEEEE Jamesā Ralph and Tomās Jack!!
Okay so first James was amazing and idk if this makes sense but whenever I think of Ralph I immediately think of James because in my mind thatās LITERALLY Ralph (same for Tom) like he just brings this certain charm that known of other actors have brought (besides Winstonās Ralph) but Iām kinda said there wasnāt much creativity. It kinda felt like a big summary for the book or like a play. But Iāve actually read some peopleās opinion and Iāve heard heās too nice/sympathetic. Now I guess I can see where this is coming from because in the book Ralph is more meaner and a little sassy, but also Iām not gonna pretend Ralph was some evil bully that was shoving Piggy in lockers every minute š and even then Ralph does show empathy for piggy when he begins to rely on him! I just think Jamesā Ralph leaned into that a little too early. I think that we are forgetting Ralph meant well and wanted to maintain order. Which I personally think James did a great job on that part! But of course he missed some of that early judgment that Ralph had in the book.
So honestly if you asked me if I liked Jamesā Ralph or Winstonās Ralph more IāD BE REALLY TORNš¢(Balthazarās Ralph is NOT in this conversation) because I love Jamesā Ralph because the charm he brings and how he shows Ralphās sympathy but I also really like Winstonās Ralph because of his sassy attitude and optimism. If I had to pick between the two Iād genuinely have an aneurismš
Now if you told me to pick between Tomās Jack of Loxās Jack ššš Iām picking Tom 100% like his Jack was just amazing. Donāt get me wrong, Lox did a great job and I enjoyed how he played Jack! But Tom gave me that sociopathic attitude that Jack has in the book. He was genuinely scary and brought fear into the others. He showed no empathy and guilt. He just looked power hungry and I really loved that about his Jack! Heās attitude towards characters like Simon or Ralph was SO PERFECT ALMOST!! Like genuinely heās the only Jack adaptation I like š
anyways I love James Aubrey and Tom Chapin!! They brought so much charm to their movie!!
