Loribelle Spirovski - "Perhaps this is what draws me to the tension between working in a traditional medium such as oil paint and telling stories that present unmistakable references to the digital world. It is this tension that I am most intrigued by, and which continues to fuel me creatively. The tension of past and present, traditional and radical, movement and stillness, doubt and belief."

Impressionistic, abstract contemporary portraits by Sydney, Australia-based artist Loribelle Spirovski.
Loribelle says of her work, “in my practice I have found that portraiture enables me to reflect through the sitter, who becomes a conduit for both their own anxieties, as well as mine. My practice is an attempt to externalize internal conflict, creating a juxtaposition of movement and stillness that forms an unsettling effect, evoking a surreal and dreamlike quality. It is in this dreamlike place that the specter of mortality emerges, and though my art is often considered 'dark,' I believe it is ultimately redemptive as it lays bare an emotional truth.”
