BACKGROUND: CHILDHOOD

Aurel’s mother passed away when he was 3, she was killed in an act of revenge against Aurel’s father who had recently exposed a corrupt business owner with influence in the “underworld”.

Because of this, Aurel and his father relocated to stay closer to his father’s brother, Azul’s step-father. Azul and Aurel actually ended up pretty much living in the same houses, since they were literal next door neighbors and were together all the time. 

Azul was actually a little annoyed that Aurel was around now, since he was used to being an only child, but Aurel automatically started clinging onto Azul because that’s his new big brother thanks dad, I love this new gift. Azul warmed up to him though.

While Aurel wasn’t bullied due to his body, he was bullied because he was an young autistic naive kid who was new to the neighborhood and didn’t have a mother, which the other kids picked up on. He was also picked on due to his proximity to Azul (this will come back to haunt Azul in the future). 

Aurel got the cut on his face when he was 5 and Azul was 6. The two got cornered near the shipwrecks and Aurel was shoved into the wreck and got cut really badly and deep. Azul had to hold his hands to his face to try and stop the bleeding. It was that bad (facial scars need to be very deep in order for them to scar). He also developed a fear of enclosed spaces due to being shoved into an old treasure chest (his equivalent of the octopus pot for Azul) by his bullies. 

Aurel’s father is very loving and doting, but due to the nature of his job, he’s not home often so he wasn’t aware of the bullying until Aurel was around 10 years old. This is also because Aurel often hid the bullying from his dad because he didn’t want him to worry. 

Aurel would often sit with Azul while his cousin studied the Grimoire’s, he was there during the making of It’s A Deal. Azul would always tell Aurel that, once he’s powerful enough, he’lll ensure no one will be able to hurt either of them anymore.

Aurel has always looked up to his cousin, not only in terms of intellect, but also because he has never had that drive that Azul did, he’s always been a follower, not a leader. In his eyes, even back when Azul was a “octo-twerp” he was still his cool older cousin. And he always will be.

AZUL’S OVERBLOT: 

While the twins came after, with Ace, Deuce and Jack, Aurel was with Azul during his confrontation with Leona and Ruggie. Aurel, who had never seen this side of Azul before, is rightfully terrified and scared, not only because his cousin is losing his shit, but also because of how quickly Azul is stealing everyone else magic, he’s terrified that one wrong miss and he’ll be the one on the floor.

Aurel is still very haunted by Azul’s actions, especially the way Azul looked at him when he was insisting Aurel give him his magic so he could be powerful again. 

After the overblot, Aurel carries a lot of doubt towards Azul, he often wonders whether Azul had ever really seen him as a family, or just another person that he can use to bring him profit. It’s similar to how the octotrio categorized their obvious friendship as just business, but Aurel doesn’t have that similar understanding with Azul, so he’s anxious about it. 

Azul isn't exactly the open type either so ¯\🙄/¯

I think shortly after Jamil’s overblot, the two actually do talk about it. It’s a very long conversation for the two of them.

She may be banned from the kitchen but damn my adhd queen sure can navigate and plan charted courses. She also managed to sneak onto the salty spirit crew and joined through sheer will. Meanwhile kenneth can *squints at notes* make really good chilli, plays some instruments, and make shanties! Yeah. His goal is becoming a professionally trained medic for the crew.

With the magic of forged documents and anira having a Japanese citizenship he managed to begin those studies when kwazii was? I was day around 11 or so? Yeh. Before that though he'd pretend to be a portman who handled documents and communications, in order to prevent the crew (the salty spirit crew) from being caught on supply runs <3

Anira is a bit naturally loud, is a talented pickpocketer, enjoys rap (and her husband's shanties),collects drift wood and knows everything about every type of wood, has a bit of a history with insecurity despite her boldness, is incredibly good at getting others to reveal personal information through her (nosyness) friendly demeanor, and loves the feeling of freedom from society and experiencing new places.   Anira is also rather sneaky and smug, and can be an excellent prankster when she wants to be.

Kenneth is honesyly a big wife guy and is actually a pretty romantic guy. Yk, sappy songs, thoughtful gifts,bragging about his wife, loving every "flaw", and pretty emotionally vulnerable with her. Kenneth also has alot of anxiety about worst case scenarios and disease. He just tries his best to keep Anira from doing something risky and getting hurt. She uh, kinda has a penchant for not being scared of anyone, from rougher individuals on the streets to... a literal assassin who just joined their crew 😩🙏

Okay...why Ireland?

Is it a spoiler or did you just really want to send them there?

The answer is very straight-forward my friend... author's bias, I'm from there! 🤣

That and I thought it would be quite amusing as well as befitting, a lot of Irish mythology is deeply tied to faerie lore, some of it relating to how the domains of the fae are travellable/tied to Ireland.

Hence, I chose to weave that aspect into my own works. There are certain things in my lore/plotlines that are references to the mythology, some of it more subtle than others

Some fun facts about these guys!

They don't have teeth, instead they have beaks! This is because most of what they eat is either soft (kelp) or have hard shells (mollusks)

Their 'ears' are actually fins, not ears. Their true ears are the holes under the false ears.

They can't swim well, instead they move much like hippos in water. They also cannot breathe underwater, they breath air.
