Saw you said you'd want to know more about the Old Gods au in a reblog
📖📖📖📖📖📖 (i have so much and you can also ask @nighttimepatrons about it too because we're co-creators)
The short of it is that Old Gods is a whole series of stories (on my tumblr and AO3) that mostly follow Feanor's family, who are living in a vaguely 1900's Appalachia mountains. Most of the stories focus on the crazy things the family gets up to but there's a building threat in the form of a presence on the forest that is not nice and slowly being released from an old prison under the mountains.
The stories really span a variety of characters and themes, from something as cute as toddler Celebrimbor calling everyone 'Papa' when he wants something to Eol finding Aredhel (which I wrote a few weeks ago and had a #notfun time because he's a terrible person).
Here's the ominous and (perhaps) melodramatic summary from AO3:
Fëanor knows there is Something out there in the forest. It’s getting closer, it’s coming for them. He’s sure it killed his brother, Fingolfin—crushed him in a landslide near the mines. He has no proof, though. Everyone knows he’s always been paranoid, delusional even. His wife and sons believe him, they’ve felt it just as he has. But what can they do against an entity of creeping destruction as it fights its way past the stone that kept it caged deep within the Earth? Fortify their home, look after each other, and possibly dabble with greater powers themselves (though that’s mostly Nerdanel).
The inhabitants of the closest town avoid wandering into the forest, sticking close to the road when they do. They aren’t scared of any supernatural powers, just the family of hillbillies living somewhere in those dark trees. The far-flung members of the Finwë clan occasionally come into town to buy or trade for things (especially the many grandsons who somehow always seem to become more numerous as the years go by). The stores aren’t going to turn them away though as business is business. The local Madam, in particular, appreciates their patronage and has some kind of history with Fëanor. Things stay quiet in the town, except for when they don’t.
The family of Fëanor changes over the years. He likes collecting sons.
Faces come and faces go, but no one can truly escape this place, not once it’s got its teeth in them.
Once you see what’s out there, It’ll never let you go.
Hope that's not too much of an introduction to the series! Would be thrilled to talk more if you enjoy the series 📖📖📖📖
OMG!!! That sounds amazing!
Thank you so much for giving me more info, I'm looking forward to checking that out! I'm so excited that there's more to this than just that one drabble, I didn't realize it's a whole universe :) Woohoo!!! This is gonna be a fun read for my next day off work 😂 And can I just say, it sounds incredibly interesting and creative. The Feanorians really do give off this sorta scary/creepy/hillbilly vibes, don't they? There's tons of them and they're close to each other but closed off from the rest of the world... really excited to read your stories. Thanks again for telling me about them!!!!!!!
