The gun sits next to me. I cannot go back to his house. They’ll find the body in the morning. I can’t go back to town. Eliza and the children will worry- I know- but i’ll be arrested-

They flinch at the closeness of your voice in their ear, "dude, bubble."

"Pop!" you respond.

"No, back up man" they say with amusement.

"Ohh" you say backing up only very slightly, "so? what's up with your whole deal?"

"What, what do you mean?"

"Who are you in the friend group? how do I know you?" you windmill your hand, "yadda yadda tell me all your secrets."

Janus snrks but keeps to himself.

"Yeeeeah I'm going to skip over that secrets thing" Virgil starts, "but I suppose I can divulge a little bit about myself."

"Tell me everything" you whisper.

"I'll tell you some things" Virgil whispers back.

"I'll take it!"

"You're gonna have to. Hm... where to start..." Virgil thinks.

"Oh! okay, I know you through Roman and I know Roman cause we roomed together in college."

"Roman went to collage?" you blurt making the other two laugh at the surprised tone.

"It’s hard to imagine isn't it?" Janus smirks.

"What was it for?" you ask.

"It was a college oriented for the arts" Virgil answers and continues with more detail, "I was there for animation and writing with music on the side - Roman went for... mostly acting but he really overdid himself trying to get in as much as he can, he barely slept - always overworking himself, sometimes I thought he was trying to distract himself from the world..." Virgils voice trails off.

Dots are comin together, I don't know which dots but they are.

"Did I go to college?"

Janus answers, "only in a technicality."

"Huh?"

"You crashed in my dorm until I... dropped out."

You serge forwads to shake Janus' shoulder, "you're so smart how did you drop out!?"

Janus laughs, "I had personal shit going on if you must know."

"Very descriptive, thank you."

"No problem dear."

"What did you go for?"

He takes a second to reply, "I was aiming to be a lawyer."

"So many things make sense now" Virgil mumbles.

Totally different school than Roman and Virgil...

"How come you never told me about that?" Virgil asks.

Janus doesn't answer for a moment, "it never came up."

Virgils grip on the steering wheel gets tight, "that's bullshit but whatever."

Janus looks away out his window.

The air in this tiny space is heavy.

Time to break that!
