Looking Young
I lost my ID
a few weeks ago.
I tore both my home
and my mom's car apart.
I accepted defeat
and planned on getting a new one.
While buying energy drinks
at the gas station-
I decided to ask a question
and take a chance.
Hi, I lost my ID. Would I be able to buy nicotine with a photo I have of it on my phone?
"you lost your ID?"
The cashier asked in reply.
Yeah, I looked everywhere-
I started, while he pulled a
plastic rectangle out of the register drawer.
"is this you?"
I stared at it in disbelief.
Oh my god, yes it is!
I said with a laugh.
Can I get some nicotine?
"I thought you looked familiar!"
We shared a laugh
as he scanned my ID.
He asked me if I get ID'd often.
I told him yes,
it's rare that I don't.
"I thought so, you look so young!"
I laughed and thanked him.
That's very kind.
It is, and I hear it a lot
but I must be honest:
I think I definitely look thirty.
I wear it well.
I can't wait to be a silver fox at fifty.
I have plans to.
Gonna let the grey grow out
and wear it with pride.
Every year I get to is a badge of honor.
It's just another year
that I made it.
Crazy that my license was at the gas station
this whole time.
It's like my home away from home.
