Ok so I watched the Fjord and Beau conversation and nothing else of the latest episode, and like I could put the clown makeup on and try to hold on hope for beaujester but I would definitely have to address a few things first anyway
First of all the "it's easy to lust after Jester" line is bad. I think it was Marisha misspeaking and not using the right words, and I'm all for letting people misstep and apologize and move forward, but that doesnt mean it wasn't still damaging.
It does unfortunately feed into the idea of the predatory lesbian, and Beau being a masculine woc lesbian has triple the predatory stereotypes. Not to mention the fact that even after Beau's confession people would still adamantly call Beau's feelings towards Jester predatory even in the face of irrefutable evidence to the contrary.
It gives ammunition to some of the toxic parts of the community. And I do not agree with anyone saying "oh this is their game, just let them have fun." They are a media company. They profit off of us as fans and our connection to the show. They are show runners with a wide audience and with that they have and must take on the responsibility of their show and how they represent their show and themselves.
I do not want to send any hate to Marisha, lord knows she's had enough of it, most of it unwarranted but unfortunately when you choose to play a lesbian woman of colour you have to do it with respect, grace, and dignity. You have to have the understanding of the struggles the people you are representing go through and that your words have weight and meaning and can tear down as much as they lift up.
So people are allowed to be disappointed in that, they're allowed to talk about how that moment was hurtful, or to hope for an apology or an acknowledgement, or even to drop the show entirely of this was the last straw for them.
The cast has made decisions where after a week of reflection have come back and have decided to address their choices, or to change their opinions on things to better fit their character.
Examples: Beau apologizes to Caleb after the bowl dispute (I forget all the details). Beau bringing up how tm9 went a bit overboard with the slave play and the fact it was uncomfortable. Veth choosing to hold Essek more accountable than the grace she gave him at the live show.
So there is precedent to address this on the same platform, in canon. A simple aside of "hey fjord, I dont know why i said lust after, my feelings were more than just lust, i just thought that would be an easier way to process what i said" should not be out of the question. That's not to say let's hold our breaths and wait to see of they address it. Be upset and hell dont even forgive or trust them after this even if they do address it if that's your prerogative. I'm just saying they have the opportunity to address it with a modicum of grace, and I hope they do but doubt they will and that's disappointing.
Based on how big they fjorjester discord call out got, I have to believe that some of the CR cast saw the homophobia that ran rampant there, and of course people cant be held wholly responsible for their fanbase but there being no condemnation is uh not great especially since the conversation just gave so much fuel to people who hold those toxic views. Fjord talks about his deep feelings towards Jester and Beau talks about lusting over Jester. This isnt a shipping thing, this is about not taking responsibility in protecting the more vulnerable fans in your community and adding more fuel to the fires against them.
They should address it and they should strive to do better. They are literally profiting off of being beacons of love and acceptance for the LGBTQ community with their "dont forget to love each other" merch. Even if they dont make profits off of that merch they are still using it as a catch phrase for their company, a way to pull LGBTQ audience members in and gain a larger fan base (which in turn they profit off of). This is a problem with many shows and CR is not excluded. They want to bring in an LGBTQ audience but have not put in the work to make it a safer space for them, and that sucks
