I just thought about long-haired Jon designs, and how I don't tend to draw him like that, but then I remembered I did once for this lonely!Jon comic, I looked it up and decided to redraw it in color.
I saw multiple post about how jon should’ve been an avatar of the lonely since he's been lonely most of his life and all but the thing is that when you being lonely is the only thing you truly know its just not that scary. Part of him have to be afraid for him to become an avatar but loneliness can only be truly scary if you know better, if you have a reason to fear it.
I've been lonely for the majority of my life and i can assure you that being lonely only truly become awfull and scary when you have a reason not to be, when you know how not-lonely feels like.
So yeah, jon not being marked by the lonely before s4 is actually pretty logic, cause before the institute he didn’t really had anyone and in s1 he still pretty distant from the other, in s2 his paranoia make him distance himself even more, so yes, its take time for him to realize that he's not alone anymore and after that he dies than come back to everyone being a bitch to him and to martin just completly ghosting him. The man doesn’t mind being alone not cause he likes it but because it’s the only thing he's ever know.
i am once again thinking about how easy it would be for Jon to succumb to the Lonely
