when sodium or potassium is exposed to oxygen and moisture in air, it tarnishes. they're supposed to be nice and shiny metals, but since they tarnish in a matter of seconds, that shine is gone.
but when sodium and potassium come into contact with each other, it forms an alloy called NaK. provided it stays away from air, its shine lasts much longer than when they're in solid form. basically, when they're together, their shine is much more visible, hence another reason why NaK is a justifiable ship.
this formation of the liquid alloy is also prob why i would recommend sodium and potassium to not hold hands or hug for too long unless they want to melt. heck, when they do alloy, it's like with cupronickel, it's like a really REALLY tight hug.
(as if they don't melt just by seeing each other)

My headcanon for the dynamic between these two is that Potassium is definitely the proactive one (higher reactivity), and Sodium, although normally quite energetic, gets all shy and timid around her.
