Happy Mail Awesomeness! Zine Makers Are the Best

Haaaaappy mail! I’m so happy I could burst into glitter and confetti. People in the zine community are so generous. A couple of these were trades, but it’s still wonderful and generous in my book. Maybe it's too late to consider these for your zinester Christmas shopping, but the following are new releases from zinesters whom I've read in the past and liked for both their zine content and writing style. LP Style: I Look Like This On Purpose

Logpoes is a Dutch zinester who publishes zines in both Dutch and English. Her latest English release is LP Style: I Look Like This On Purpose, a 36-page A5 zine on her style evolution and personal identity through pictures and words. Her writing is natural, quick, and witty. If you like self-deprecating humor and fast-paced reads, you might enjoy Logpoes' writing style.

Larry, issue 7

Lee Taylor is a UK-based zinester, musician, and artist. In addition to his perzine Larry, Lee's also co-editor of The Screever, a zine with a Straight Edge lifestyle theme that often features the local punk and metal music scene in the West Midlands, and runs his own music label Glass of Spit Records under which he releases music in CD, cassette, and vinyl formats. His newest zine is issue 7 of Larry with a limited print run of 35 copies.

I just finished reading this issue, and it's largely influenced by the feelings one gets when turning another year older and by consequence evaluating what that means about one's own past expectations on the present. He also reminisces about his favorite RPG games from the late 90s/early 2000s and lists his top song picks for his funeral (if he had the choice), among other stories and thoughts he shares about this past year. I think what appeals to me about the voice in Larry is that although it's at times self-conscious, it's not really apologetic. The voice is open and frank, consciously unfiltered.

I've been playing around with making buttons. Mine's the giant one near the center. The cuter 1/4" buttons are from kind zinesters logpoes and Lee Taylor, and another one from the Philly Zine Fest. I finally decided to pin them on a bag I don't mind poking holes in.

While I'm wrestling myself through yet another one of Shakespeare's masterpieces, Clark (= my cat) lovingly shoves his mustache into my ear. I made an interesting noise. He purred some more.
