My soul groans within me

Call it grief. Call it love.

Whatever the rose, heavy still, the thorn of cost

I can not help but fall to my knees

Excited that would help with the speed of flooring

Grabbed your signature faded jean jacket

To meander outside and sit on the porch

In our rocking chairs, to watch the trucks come in

You have NO idea how much I treasure these little conversations with you

How much I utterly adore the old man that is you

Love: (a noun and verb) Something that already is as well as something to do and become. How do I love you? Allow me to count the ways:

Learn about them, remember and actively apply all their preferences, behaviors, mannerisms

All the little details 

Listen to them and validate their feelings

Want to talk to them even during difficulty to understand them better

Make consistent time and effort to either check up on them or be with them

Feel safe enough to be vulnerable and ask for help

Feel safe enough to be quiet with them

Aggressive affection for days INCLUDING constantly highlighting their goodness

 Be their biggest cheerleader

Make the time to be there when they need you

For the good, the silly, the bad, and the ugly

Celebrate with them about them and over all their accomplishments

Don’t give up even when they don’t respond the way you want them too

Defend and guard their good name

Let them feel safe with you

But most paramount, they inspire you to become better through your own creativity and growth 

Beauty is NOT permission or requirement

Necessary for existence

I do not need to adhere to shifting standards

To win acceptance or approval

I do not need to be beautiful or pretty to be kind
