One of my favorite things to do in Central and South American countries is to hire a local guide to take me around. I find I get a more personal experience this way and also get to go wherever I want. The guides usually know some cool random places to stop as well! In Guatemala we went on a group tour with a local guide and got to see so much of Antigua. I loved hearing her stories and learning about the area, especially about the Mayan history.
