#Repost @paul_pindar • • • • • • Metz, France Current #mood⁠ .⁠ Jacques Callot - St. Livier, from Alphonse de Rambervillers, "Les actes admirables du bienheureux martyr St. Livier, gentilhomme d'Austrasie", Vic, 1624.⁠ .⁠ St. Livier (died in 451 a.D.), a Frankish nobleman, fought against Attila's Huns near Metz, his birthplace. According to the legend, he was beheaded by the Huns with one single, very effective strike. At that point, St. Livier allegedly picked his own head up, and took a few steps ahead while holding it. He then fell on the floor, and his body became an oak. Impressed by the miracle (and we can suppose it was not easy to impress one of the most dreaded people ever), the Huns immediately fled, leaving the area alone.⁠ .
