• Al Qarah Mountain, which is also known as "Jabal al Qarah" and "Al Shaban Mountain," is located in the Eastern Province, Al Ahsa, in Saudi Arabia and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Al Qarah Mountain is known for its fascinating and unique caves that were formed due to the dissolving process of water-soluble rocks, the collapse of the upper rock layers as a result of abrasion, and earthquake fissures. Some of the caves in the Al Qarah Mountain are particularly famous, like the Al Nashab cave, which has moderately steady temperatures throughout the year. Some caves are also used to hold workshops for local traditional potters. The caves have 28 tall linear passageways, which are a total of 1.5 kilometers in length. Newly-found charging station: Al Falah Park! It has more trees, grass, earth, and wider walkpaths🍀🌲🌱 One of the few things that can really capture my optical organs is that piece of beryl on my knuckles. The physical qualities of this stone make it a standout among others of its kind. There’s something about its transparent but slightly dark appearance that makes me think there’s more to it than meets the eye. I get disarmed whenever it refracts light and gives out that shimmer, especially when held directly to the sun. This beryl and a few other stones from my boho vault are my go-to company when green parks, mountains, and beaches aren’t within my reach. The little kid in me usually ascribes magical powers to them but the adult, he treats them as a seedbed of optimism; symbols for my favorite places (respectively); and a reminder of what the mind and body can do beyond that “limited walls”. When I was doing my physio in 2019, Tiger’s Eye and Obsidian bracelets kept me company. Thanks to my sister who gifted them to me post-op. I got back into harnessing the “rocking interest” since then. Prior to that, I actually had a few quartz but all ended up in the trash bin, after some time, because they’re brittle and soft. I was ecstatic when I got my first 7th grade mineral (druzy agate) in 2009. It’s the pioneer of the now collection but that light green beryl in the photo is the favorite. I received a lot of skeptical reactions about this interest from people I know back then and now, of course, but pushed on with it anyway. The next thing I knew, it’s been decades and I still feel grounded, focused, protected, and calmed with these things around me. It’s safe to say that this is one of the few mundane, extraordinary events that remind not just me, but a lot of people as well, to pause and take a few moments to simply revel in this beauty whenever I chanced upon it. As the sun begins to disappear over the horizon, many of us could only try to capture the magic of the moment. There are really no words that could ever really describe, or photos that could ever really capture, the true beauty of a sunset. What I, and you, can do at the very least is complement that beauty by articulating the wonder it radiates—either through weaving of words or photographing the fleeting magic. But more than anything else, it’s always a good thing to remind ourselves that with all of the challenges head on us during these Stephen King-Like Days, sunset remains as one of the many beautiful things that we can turn to for comfort or relief. And like I always say, we don’t need to travel far from the base to get an Instagrammable view of it. Gazing at it actually is what primarily counts—when we are in the moment with it. (Nothing beats the real thing.)
