I revisited my live setup (The Suitcase of Drone) and made some updates and rearrangements for 2018. Here is an improvised sample of some new music and ideas I have been working on. Stay tuned this year for lots of new music!

In my normal setup I use 2 4 track recorders to playback and layer numerous tape loops. For this video, I wanted to experiment and take this idea further by using a large ensemble of walkmans and various length tape loops. This improvised ambient walkman "symphony" is recorded in real time, with all tape loops being mixed and processed through a caline reverb pedal and behringer delay.

The TAPE LOOP DRONECHESTRA is an experiment in live multi layered tape looping. Two auxiliary walkmans with separate tape loop parts are being played and fed into the 4 track through the left and right inputs. Their volume is being controlled by their corresponding slider. The 4 track itself is also playing a tape loop and has parts recorded on to each of its 4 tracks. Those individual loops are being played by their corresponding track knob. Everything is then processed through delay and reverb from the Zoom MS-50G and run straight into garageband.
Replaced my fading Tascam 414, improved my cassette storage system, and rearranged some pedal configurations. I also made a small 84hp eurorack case out of foamcore to see how it could potentially fit and integrate with my suitcase. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger!
I have been watching a lot of entries for this year's Tiny Desk Contest and wanted to challenge myself this year by not playing any guitar. In this video I am performing a stripped down version of my song "These Static Transmissions" using 5 second, handmade cassette tape loops. Individual sounds are recorded and performed from the tape loops and then layered/processed through numerous effects in a setup I call the Suitcase of Drone. The resulting music is a tape based, improvised, computerless performance that blurs the genres of ambient, drone, noise, and electronic music.
