unreasonably difficult Sims 4 challenge that I enjoy taking shots at:
(the main point is forcing you to focus on foraging, farming/gardening, and hunting, bc otherwise you die)
(this is mainly dependent on Littlbowbub's mods, but I think you also need the Cottage Living pack for the 'simple living' lot challenge. I've never tried this without also having the Natural Living skill from the fairies pack (I forget what it's called) and honestly I'm not actually sure if this challenge is POSSIBLE without that skill. maybe?? might depend on how hard a variant you choose. anyway. here's how I do this challenge:)
- download Littlbowbub's mods (the hunting + foraging mod, the homestead helper and various cookbooks related to that, the 'fires require wood' mod, probably a good idea to get the mini mod that fixes some of the off-the-grid recipes not always working right in said mods. other Littlbowbub mods possible but optional. other mods in general possible but optional though any mod that makes it significantly easier is.....hm. up to your discretion but personally the qhole point of this is it's Hard)
- start with a single new Sim, and a lot
- now, the essential bit! add challenges to your lot. Specifically, make it off the grid, and also add the simple living challenge. Littlebowbub's mods make these specific challenges harder than normal, because for the 'you can only make a recipe if you have the ingredients' simple living challenge, well....suddenly these recipes require a lot more ingredients. The off-the-grid is also harder in terms of cooking because now in order to use the oven, you either have to use a powered oven (and get the power for that) or you have to use Littlebowbub's ovens (which require you go foraging for wood to light the fire for it). There are technically off-the-grid grills you can use without having to do either of those things but they are Not in the spirit of this challenge so I'm banning grills
- you are not allowed to buy things that can instead be gotten via Littlbowbub's mods, e.g. can't buy seeds, get them via foraging
- your Sim is not allowed to go to other lots to fill needs that this challenge makes difficult. It's hard on purpose. use Littlebowbub's mods or be real smart about what you buy. e.g. if you're hungry but don't have a (functional) oven or don't have enough ingredients to make food....tough luck. find an apple to eat or starve; you are not allowed to go a restaurant or bar to get food that way. You cant just go hang out at a friends' house forever to fill any/all needs. If your hygiene is low you absolutely cannot go to a gym to clean off, but you have options: iirc you can go bathe in a river or smth using a mod, or you can get an off-the-grid shower/bath and use that, or you can get an on-the-grid one and then have to ALSO figure out water and power
- .....if you can afford one, that is. because did I mention this is also a rags to riches challenge? Depending on how hard you want this to be, after bulldozing your lot you can either
a) add a kitchen, which includes all the kitchen things you think you'll need but nothing purely decorative or that increases/alters Sims' mood. In said kitchen, add all the appropriate activity items from Littlbowbub's mods: homestead helper, cooking books, maybe the oven, maybe the crafting table. The kitchen is the only room you're allowed to build. Outside this one room, add an outside bin, a mailbox, and the appropriate activity items from Littlbowbub's mods: the sign, maybe the crafting table. Once you've got these things, set your funds to zero. (So you've got shelter, but no bathroom or bedroom or place to study/relax/socialise)
b) You're allowed the Littlbowbub activity stuff, a mailbox, and an outside bin, but that's It. Set your funds to zero once you've got those sorted. Yes this does also mean the homestead helper+books are dumped on the grass, no counter allowed for them. This means you have no shelter, no fridge, no bathroom, no bedroom, and no place to relax/study/socialise. Good luck!
c) as soon as you've got your Sim and your lot, bulldoze it and set your funds to zero immediately. because fuck you, that's why (strongly recommend putting 'buy Littlbowbub stuff' high on your list of priorities for once you've got some Simoleons because otherwise the combination of the simple living challenge and the ban on going to restaurants will starve you out p damn quick. or your sim will just get really sick of eating apples and fish, I guess)
Your goals for this challenge are, in approximate order of priority:
- Don't break the aforementioned rules
- Fucking,,,survive
- Make money. It's extremely unlikely you'll be able to make as much money as a rags to riches usually demands, you'll be busy not dying, but you should try to aim for being able to give at least $10,000 to any hypothetical children you may have when they're old enough to move outand still have at least $5,000 left for yourself. Or you can aim for the riches goal, which I cannot remember right now. Tbh depending on how many children your sim ends up having, that could be easier, idk man I don't know how you play on that front
- Try to have your Sims as happy as possible, and as functional as possible. ('Functional' at least partially depending on what if any other mods you play with, but also meaning try to maximise good milestones and minimise bad ones such as passing out (only if you have the relevent pack - I don't remember what pack milestones come from, sorry))
- If your Sim has a job, you should be trying to get promotions. In any case, you should be trying to complete your Sim's aspiration
I normally approach this like a legacy challenge, and start off with it (.......relatively speaking) easy, and ramp up the difficulty as I go, but you don't have to do that. If you do want to try that, then I am adding two rules
- any kids should be getting the good reward traits from being highly skilled and/or well taken care of, as relevent. at bare minimum, they shouldnt be taken away because they starved or whatever. take care of your kids!
- you have to, at minimum, have your firstborn child as part of your household (even if your Sim wasn't the one pregnant, and the father isn't part of the household. finangle it to get the kid in your household, or get the father AND kid in the household)
I'm also going to reblog this post in a minute with variations and/or suggestions on how you can make this whole thing easier/harder as you see fit
