America did not like being alone.  This was a fundamental fact that Lithuania knew.

So, when Lithuania got a call in the late hours of the night, and he saw that it was his boyfriend, he answered.

“Alfred?” he said. 

“Tolys—oh shit, how late is it over there? I’m sorry dude, you can go back to bed.  Ignore this,” America rambled.

That only heightened Lithuania’s concerns.

“No, it’s fine,” Lithuania said.  “You didn’t wake me.”

“Oh, that’s good,” America said; his voice sounded a little odd.

“Are you alright?” Lithuania asked.

“Of course, dude!” America said, albeit not very convincingly.  “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You called at—” Lithuania checked the clock, “10:30 at night.  You don’t normally do that unless you’re upset.  Did something happen?”

“No, nothing happened,” America said.

“Well—okay,” Lithuania said, deciding it was better not to press the issue.  Trying to force America to open up would just make him shut down more.  “But if you did want to talk, I’d listen, okay?”

“Alfred?” Lithuania asked; America sighed.

“I promise you, it’s dumb,” America said.

“If it’s upsetting you, it isn’t dumb,” Lithuania said.

America was silent for a moment; then—

“I just—felt kind of lonely, I guess” America finally said.  He sounded like he was trying to sound off-handed, but failed miserably.

Lithuania didn’t get a chance to say anything before America was spilling (that was another thing about America; when he opened up, things tended to come rushing out).

“Matt’s busy, and Tony’s gonna be gone for another two weeks, and the house is so empty!” America cried.  “I hate it.  It’s like when England would leave when I was younger.”

“Oh, Alfred, I know,” Lithuania said.  “Do you want to play Animal Crossing? I know I can’t be there, but…”

America was silent for a moment, then—

“Could you just talk to me?” America asked.  “What’d you do today?”

“Of course,” Lithuania said, and launched into a description of what he’d done today.  It soon turned into rambling about how Poland had dropped in unexpectedly. 

When Lithuania tapered off after talking about Poland’s impromptu visit, America didn’t respond right away.

“Alfred?” Lithuania asked.  “Are you feeling better?”

“A little,” America said.

“Alfred, if you ever feel alone, you can call me, okay? I promise you can talk to me.  And I definitely won’t think it’s dumb,” Lithuania said.  “Why don’t you tell me about that new superhero movie that’s coming out? It’s a Captain America movie, right?”

If there was anything America loved, it was infodumping about his hyperfixations.  As someone on the autism spectrum, hyperfixating wasn’t something America could help, but it didn’t matter.  As long as America was happy, Lithuania was happy.

“Okay,” America said.  “Tolys? I love you.”

“I love you, too,” Lithuania said.

As America launched into a lengthy and in-depth description of both Captain America and the Winter Soldier—and their complete comic histories—, Lithuania listened with rapt attention.
