i pretty much always play as a sniper adept despite the spec handicap, and it's basically for one reason only- i use pull and singularity to expose enemies from cover to my sniper fire. if you're not relying on biotics to do any damage it might offset some of the increased strain of using it at a longer range. just a thought.
Perfectly sound strategy for playing the game: stasis + headshots without any points in biotic charge is a common tactic for playing the asari vanguard in ME3 multiplayer.Â
As far as lore is concerned, however, game mechanics would not apply. Whether or not youâre doing âdamage,â so to speak (and in the real world, you donât do âdamageâ to a personâs health bar), wouldnât have much bearing on exertion - you are manipulating dark energy either way. I (attempt) to write biotics with hard science, which is a challenge in and of itself because we are a) breaking physics with mass effect fields as it is, and b) we donât actually know much about dark energy. But itâs really fun to try. Â
Singularity, for example, is a frickin cool power in the game, but what happens to it when you break it down from a physics perspective? Youâre creating a mini black hole. How does it work? How does it behave? What does it cost the biotic to create it and maintain it for any period of time, and how does it affect anyone who gets trapped inside it?Â
Iâm working on answers to those questions, and I have a kickass fic idea in mind to showcase it, but essentially, singularity is potentially an incredibly advanced, incredibly taxing, and incredibly dangerous skill.Â
Again, this is just how I write and think about biotics. Thereâs not a right or a wrong way to headcanon it, as far as Iâm concerned. The important thing is that whatever rules you set for your fic, be consistent with them.
