We’re having a #Pink #Spring... with this collection of #DrChristopherDresser designed pieces. They look like they should be 1950’s, but are datable to 1889! They have an interesting history, being originally designed for the #Linthorpe pottery by Dresser in the 1870’s. When they closed in 1889, the #Derbyshire pottery #Ault purchased their designs & moulds and continued to make the models. One of these vases bears their first mark, AULT - used from 1889 until 1891, when they added ENGLAND . Pretty #Pink for #Spring.... these modern-looking pink glaze vases are a surprise, with one being datable to 1889-90: they are by the Ault company of Staffordshire, and their simplicity is evidence of #DrChristopherDresser’s ‘modern’ design of the 1870’s: not surprising to discover Ault bought moulds & designs - including Dresser designs- from the #Linthorpe factory in 1889 when they closed, and proceeded to made them at then their own works. As they added ‘England’ to their mark in 1891, we can say the earliest of these - marked simply ‘AULT’ - was perhaps made 1889 as a first-off from the newly purchased moulds- if not, then 1890, before the change of mark in 1891. Which is about 40 years before they look like they date to - compare them to the 1930’s #ArtPottery and they fit right in! These will be a part of our #FreshStockTuseday , tomorrow on our website - priced $120-140 each.
