A sneak peek at a project in the works. Lines by Ron Smith, colors by myself.
I’m trying on a new color-scheme for HodgePodge, and finding that I really like the new one for Linn in practice.

GRAB, GRAB, STAB!
The latest YDAW was on velociraptors, and it came up that Deinonychus and possibly Velociraptor had 1st and 4th claws on their feel in opposition to each other, potentially allowing for the above means of handling prey, grabbing with the feet and then stabbing in with the massive sickle-claw on the 2nd toe.Â
I’m already imagining the martial arts implications for the characters in my DynoGuard universe.
DynoGuard Pages 1-8
Feeling a bit like a dinosaur with a telecope these days?
Edit: Quick update, DynoGuard is supported through my patreon, and $5 and up backers get high-res pages with and without word balloons.

I felt like doing some color experiments for a Linn/Jason promo pic. What are your favorites? Clockwise, starting upper left:

Working on colors for page 8...
Just had to share this panel detail of Kyle being Kyle. @zeromayhem really captured my boy’s personality here.Â
Linhera "Linn" Rex, youngest Dinosovian member of the #DynoGuard, she combines her natural stealth DynoPower with the capabilities of her armor, Fighterflight, to serve as the team's scout and spy.
Hopefully this wont’ trigger a false positive on Tumblr’s pornoscope like the last DynoGuard render post that is STILL pending approval.
I’m feathering Linn. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep the current head plumage (it seems pretty 80s-ish so I’m inclined to go with it) and her forehead lock/bangs will wait until she’s closer to finished, because I’ll have to do that asymmetrically and its hard to go back to symmetrical modelling in Sculptris after you leave it.
Based on some feedback, I’ve got two versions of the tail here. The initial take (confusingly placed on the right) is based on Greg’s illustration of her civilian form:
Which is a vertical “fin” of feathers, which feels really action-y to me. The revised version has a horizontal “Fan” of feathers, which is biologically more accurate. I’m not sure which one to go with.
For background, Dromeons, (the species of Dinosovian that Linn is a part of), are feathered, but, similarly to how humans lost their fur along their path to being well, human, those feathers have receded, with reduced forelimb/wing feathers, tail feathers, a mane on the head and neck, with rare instances of a mane that goes all the way down the back and feathers on the lower legs. Therox, close cousins to the Dromeon, also have feathers.
Essentially, feathers, quills and spines are analogous to hair, and are similarly styled, cut, trimmed, and dyed for fashion, (Linn is a natural fuchsia). Conditions similar to baldness and alopecia occur, with near-total featherlessness being as common in Therox as blue eyes is in humans.Â
