Ragatha should have been Jax's narrative foil. She shouldn't have been sidelined this fucking hard when they parallel each other so much.
Ragatha coped with the situation by trying to be kind and positive all the time, which reminded Jax of the manipulative kindness of her mother.
Jax coped by being mean and violent, reminding Ragatha of her mother's (implied) physical abuse, as well as mental abuse.
And in the end, Ragatha learns to be more honest and open about her feelings, which allows her to get closer to Pomni and the others. As opposed to Jax who kept pushing everyone away and ended up isolating herself and abstracting.
I've seen many people criticise the Pomni and Ragatha hug scene in the finale, and while I personally loved it even if it dragged for a little too long (im ragapom biased sorry) I do understand the critic because it does feel unearned. We never saw them talk after e6 and resolve their conflict. We immediately cut to e7 where Ragatha does nothing all episode and just follows Pomni around but obviously they're now real friends (though I do wish to defend one point: Pomni has chosen Ragatha over Jax several times throughout the show. In e6, she wanted to team with Ragatha, and then Kinger but got stuck with Jax, and that was after she already started to be interested in Jax's whole deal. I don't think it's wrong or by process of elimination that Pomni calls Rags her closest friend, because she cares about Jax a lot too, but if she had to confide in someone, it would be Ragatha or Kinger, not Jax. Anyway, moving on.)
In the same way, Gangle admits in e4 that she sometimes also doubts if Ragatha's kindness is genuine, and you would think this was setting up for a conflict or evolution in her relationship with Ragatha, but it is never addressed again after e4 because we never see them talk. It also could be because Jax was the one putting that idea in her head, since Jax echoes the sentiment a couple of episodes later, and we know Jax forced her to team up on adventures, but again, just speculations. Everything about Ragatha's character development and relations with the others just never really came to fruition, or it happened off-screen. Even though, on paper, it feels like she should have gotten a bigger role than she was given.
So all I'm saying is that the show should have committed to make Pomni, Jax, and Ragatha an actual main trio but alas.
