for the alternate ship asks: cori anddddddd zero? 👀
alternate ship ask game
ty fren!!
I think this could work but it definitely takes some time. When Cori first meets Zero they don’t really like her—they’re still struggling with PTSD from what Z/enos did to them, so Zero’s connection to and constant reminder that he called Cori his friend wears on Cori, on top of Cori doesn’t have a lot of respect for people who need payment/reciprocation for doing kind things, which is amplified by how bad they are feeling about everything else. If she were feeling better/more normal, she’d be a lot more understanding about it as she usually is, but at this time it’s taking like all of her patience to be kind to Zero. But I love the thought of them growing closer over time and becoming real friends, as they realize how Z/enos used them both with no input from either of them, and as Zero regains more of herself, which is what happens in canon. Why shouldn’t they have little dates in Thavnair where they eat spicy food?? Why shouldn’t they kiss in the snow about it?? I do not know who is doing the talking in this relationship though. And they are monotone4monotone lmao but I think it could be really nice!

handing u the mic to talk about ms d'alia 🎤 i wanna know what her childhood w d'liveq was like!!
wahhh ty for asking beloved <:
so I knew I wanted to base her backstory on the concept behind mahariel background of DA origins + rayla and runan of the dragon prince, where she’s raised by a close friend of her biological parents, and it really affects how d’liveq treats the situation. he doesn’t want to overstep or replace his friends in her life, but he’s the one who steps up to raise her in a safer environment.
I retconned that they aren’t alive and don’t think I’ve shared the updated lore yet, but d’alia’s birth parents are chimalli (she/her, “nunh” in more of a protector role than a progenitor of the clan) and eleuia (they/them, sort of an oral historian speaker of the clan), and they opted to stick with leading the others elsewhere in mor dhona after silvertear skies, choosing duty (stares directly at d’alia…..), while d’liveq chose d’alia in offering to raise her in revenant’s toll himself. he already was a large part of her upbringing, and as a culinarian and alchemist, he could easily find work in a settlement, which would be safer for both of them with any lingering garlean threat.
anyway, because of all the complicated feelings around all that and being so young (12-13) at the time, d’alia struggles to come around to why they left her, how little contact she has with them up to the calamity with the clan being nomadic, and the loneliness of going from a close communal environment to just d’liveq and her, and taking on eorzean-styled names. she holds fondness for memories with chimalli and eleuia, but in her heart, d’liveq is her parent, even if she’s always referred to him by his name (mihua) instead of parent or dad or anything.
despite the adjustment for both of them, though, d’alia had a really good childhood! d’liveq eventually opened his own cafe and d’alia helped out part-time through her teen years. he taught her more in depth about the plants, herbs, and minerals in the region, exploring a bit outside of the settlement with her and kickstarted her sense of wanderlust and love for learning. he told her stories about chimalli and eleuia and the rest of their clan to keep them in her heart, too. d’alia can be a little bossy and pushy even now because he let her get away with it at times, unsure how far to lean with parental firmness, but d’liveq shaped her curiosity and gave her endless compassion and care as she grew up.

for the “things you said” prompt: 26 for charles and nat please! (~narrativefoiltrope)
I answered this here, but when it comes to Charles and Nat, I can never write enough about them leaving the other notes. I was going for some sweet domestic fluff, but it got the teensiest bit of mildly spicy at the end.
For someone usually adept at the written word, Nat was at a loss. She’d risen early, reluctantly leaving Charles asleep in bed, a frown marring his peaceful features when he turned to curl into the space she’d vacated, his arm reaching out to hug her pillow as he pressed his face into the surface. His hair was a sleep-rumpled mess and her fingers had itched to run through the thick mass of it to comb it into some semblance of order.
Or, if she was being honest, just to feel the silken strands slide through her fingers and have him give out a pleased rumble at the motion, the sound vibrating against his chest and across her own as they lay pressed close together.
The tea beside her was getting cold as she idly tapped the tip of the ballpoint pen to the notepad. The sunrise had inspired a poetic mood and she had meant to write something before having to leave to the Warehouse, but sitting in Charles’ - their, he had given her a key and asked her to call this place home - kitchen, a half-eaten slice of toast still sitting on the island counter beside her, she was coming up empty.
Your hair, the way your eyes crinkle when you smile, your laugh. Your hands, the way you move, your thoughtfulness. It was more of a list than actual poetry and she knew that she could do better. Frustrated, she scribbled a quick things I love about you note as a makeshift title and turned back to the stovetop where she had a skillet of breakfast potatoes and bacon cooking. It was Sunday, which meant that Charles was going to head into the station to catch up on the paperwork that he got behind on during the week due to working double jobs as a detective and as an Agency liaison. He usually worked all day without taking a lunch break, so she wanted him to have something filling that would last him all day.
“Something smells amazing,” Charles said, coming up behind her and resting his chin on her shoulder.
“You’re supposed to be asleep,” she teased, leaning back against his chest when his arms wrapped around her.
Charles kissed her cheek. “Bed was empty.” Breaking away from her, he whistled for Fen, opening the door for the dog to wander around the back yard while they ate breakfast. Nat concentrated on the breakfast coming together in the skillet as she half-listened to Charles wandering to the front porch to retrieve the morning paper before coming back to the kitchen to help himself to the pot of coffee he’d put on an automatic timer the night before.
“What are your plans for the day?” he asked, putting two slices of bread into the toaster and then flicking the switch on the electric kettle next to the coffeemaker. Nat had to smile at the gesture: he’d most likely discovered her cold tea and was in the process of making her a fresh mug for her.
“Nothing too strenuous,” she answered, reaching for two plates in the nearby cupboard to serve them both. “I still haven’t unpacked all my books from storage yet. I’m looking forward to filling up some empty shelves at the back of the library.”
“Oh? Anything in particular?”
She shrugged. “I can’t remember. I didn’t label the box before putting it into storage.”
“Then it’s going to be a surprise, like welcoming old friends.”
They ate their breakfast quietly, the companionable silence broken by little bits of conversation. Fen made his presence known by scratching at the patio door as if he didn’t have a pet door easily accessible to him only a few feet away. Nat laughed and got up to let him in before noticing that he had one of his squeaky toys in his mouth and a look in his eye that said he wanted her to play with him.
When she got back in a few minutes later, she saw that Charles had cleared away the dishes and items she’d used for cooking. A quick listen told her he had gone upstairs to grab a shower, so she sat back at her seat and resumed thinking about what to write and slip into his sweater pocket for him to find later on.
And that’s when she noticed the additions to her notepad.
Your smile. The way you get involved in whatever you’re reading. Your love for every dog you see. The piles of shampoos and perfumes you have and yet how you always use my stuff because you like smelling like me all day. Waking up next to you in the mornings. Above the list Charles had made, he wrote things I love about you with the you underlined.
Nat’s face began to hurt from the smile she couldn’t and didn’t want to hide. A quick look at the clock told her that Charles wasn’t due for his unofficial start time for another half hour or so. The shower was still running upstairs. Unbuttoning her pajama top, she let it slide off her body as she quietly opened the bathroom door. The glass surrounding the shower was fogged, but she could easily see Charles’ outline as she slipped in behind him. He grinned at her as she leaned down the scant height difference to kiss him, tensing only slightly at the cold tile at her back before melting against the warmth of his body.
“You know,” he told her, lips making a trail from her jaw downwards. “I could help you with your books, if you wanted.”
She gasped when his teeth nipped at her neck, her fingers tightening in his hair. “I thought you were going into the office today.”
Charles guided her leg to rest at his hip, his tongue soothing the bite mark that was already healing. “A day with you is always better than hanging out in a quiet office by myself.” He kissed his way back up to her mouth. “Work can wait.”
Heart full, Nat clung to him as they slowly moved together, the water from the shower warming them as well as drowning out the sounds of their shared sighs. If she would have had the presence of mind, she would have added the size of your hot water heater to the list of things she cared about him, but she had far better things to occupy her thoughts at the moment.
❣random kiss for sawyer x ava please! (~narrativefoiltrope)

“Detective.”
Ava stood in the doorway of Sawyer’s office, leaning ever so lightly on the doorframe. She still called them by their title at the office and around official Unit Bravo meetings, and whenever she did Sawyer couldn’t help but be propelled back into the past.
“Commanding Agent du Mortain,” Sawyer answered nonchalantly, barely looking up from their paperwork but smiling all the same. “To what do I owe this visit?”
Ava gave a reserved smile at the title and closed their office door. Hands clasped behind her back, she stood in front of their desk.
“I wanted to update you on the rogue situation,” she said. She did her best to keep her professional mask in place but it cracked when she said the next few words. “Unit Alpha is taking over.” A scowl shadowed her face.
Sawyer finally looked up from their cluttered desk. “What?”
Ava crossed her arms. “According to the Agency, they’re more… equipped to take on this case.”
They blinked, not sure what the problem was other than Ava’s pride. “Isn’t that a good thing?”
“You agree with the Agency’s decision on this?” A hint of betrayal coated Ava’s voice.
Sawyer set their papers down and brushed their blonde hair back with their fingers, leaning into their chair. “I guess it’s less agreeing with them and more a personal opinion. I’ve got my hands full.” They nodded to their stacks of paperwork piled on their desk, threatening to overtake their computer.
“I thought you preferred to work on supernatural matters.”
“Usually I do, but I don’t think I would have much time to work on the case and get my job here done. Besides,” they leaned forward, a sparkle in their eyes, “with us off the case, we’ll have more free time. Together.”
Ava’s gaze softened at the thought and she relaxed her arms. Already her professional mask was falling, revealing a woman full of love and devotion underneath.
“You may have a point,” she said as she walked forward toward Sawyer. “It’s been a long time since we’ve had time off together.”
Like magic, her words made them realize just how long it had been since the two of them had time to enjoy each other’s company. Between working two jobs, Sawyer rarely had the energy to want to do anything other than sleep. The possibilities played out in their head, and it seemed by the look of longing on Ava’s face that she was thinking the same.
She stood in front of them, and altogether the magnetism between them was unstoppable. Professionalism tossed to the wind, the two drew closer together as if their break started here and now. Sawyer couldn’t take their eyes off her lips, and Ava kept closing the gap between them. How long had it been that Sawyer could lay in her arms and enjoy her company rather than immediately falling asleep? How long had it been that they had gone on dates together and had long conversations that weren’t about work together?
They didn’t know, but they were pretty sure they could measure it in the fear that if the two of them started kissing, they wouldn’t be able to tear themselves apart from each other.
Gentle fingers wrapped around their hand and Ava raised it to her full lips. Closing her eyes, Ava kissed their inner wrist lightly. The warmth of her kiss thawed them from the chill of the office, and for a moment Sawyer forgot where they were. They closed their eyes too, savoring the tender affection and feeling more awake than they had in months.
Ava dropped their hand but held onto it, thumb rubbing their palm.
“Come over tonight,” Sawyer whispered, their heart full.
She nodded, and Sawyer found themself lost in the forest of her eyes.
So lost they hadn’t heard the door open.
Ava stiffened, hearing it first but holding onto their hand still. They both turned to see Rebecca standing there, mouth uncharacteristically open.
Rebecca straightened as Ava let go of their hand and cleared her throat. “Commanding Agent. Sawyer. I have news.”
Just like that, the moment was gone. Ava donned her stony expression and Sawyer did their best to do the same, blushing still.
