I have a problem with this cat.
While I would love my daughter's cat Anika, to sit with sunglasses on and pose for a picture having a tea party, she would never do it. She has better things to do today. So I turned to AI to create this image for me. But ethically, it is problematic.
Artificial Intelligence art algorithms use image information from existing art styles and imagery. These might be historical art work or paintings from long ago, or newer pieces found on the internet. However, this art is often used without the original artist's knowledge or consent.
As there is no human artist of AI art, because it is the composite of image information gathered over time, it is not subject to federal copyright. "Copyright law is 'limited to the original intellectual conceptions of the author'." With no human author = no copyright.
The artwork used to train the generator algorithms is typically copyrighted, owned, or attributed to real human artists and creators. Although an AI-generated artwork cannot be copyrighted or attributed to a person.
So there may be very real copyright infringements when creating AI-generated art. In early 2023, Getty Images opened a lawsuit against and AI generator that was suspected of using unlicensed Getty Images photos to create AI images. While the resulting images hold no copyright, the photos used to create them had copyright issues.
It's really hard to figure out how AI generators were trained and on what imagery. So you should just assume that the AI images are infringing on copyright infringement and NEVER use them for your own commercial reasons (to make money).
I am talking to you, tarot and oracle deck creators.
To resonate with the highest vibration, I would not want to be in an ethical gray area.
The AI cat is really cute, but I can probably find an artist or take another picture of my own cat.
Stay safe!
