Two subjects from a great story that I photographed for @weillcornell about faculty, students, and residents โ...who came to the U.S. seeking opportunities unavailable to them in their home countries. Their diverse backgrounds and life experiences have informed their work and enriched the institutionโadding to the body of scientific knowledge, and ultimately benefiting patients here and around the world. And their stories embody the ideals of Emma Lazarusโs famous poem The New Colossus; emblazoned inside the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, it welcomes newcomers with a lamp, lifted โbeside the golden door.โ Their stories first appeared in Weill Cornell Medicine magazine Vol. 17, No. 2โ Really honored to have photographed these people. Theyโre better humans than Iโฆ First is Francesca Voza, second year medical student, from France. @chica_voza Second is Said Ibrahim, MD, Chief Division of Healthcare Delivery Science and Innovation, from Somalia.
