For Remus, the holidays are bittersweet. His friends go home, and there have been a few years that he has also. The majority of the time, however; he waits for them to leave and then slinks back into the castle where he will stay. Itâs Remusâ favorite time of year, and yet his most lonesome.Â
Not for the first time, he waves them off with subtle white lies about how heâs leaving in a bit. The school is eerily empty, but he doesnât mind it much. He stops at the great hall to get some warm tea, then heads up to the dorms. Maybe heâll get started on some reading? Nothing wrong with getting ahead of schedule.Â
Except when he steps in his dorms - the ones that are supposed to be empty - he nearly drops his tea in shock at the person still in them.Â

@lifecrumblesdown sent:Â [ attention ] (From James to whoever you want :o)
Gabriel and his family werenât really magical in the general sense of the world. Sure, there was some magic in their family line, enough to support their transformation and that they were aware of the magical communities around the world, but they werenât wizards or witches. Still, they were in it enough that Gabe didnât feel out of his territory in magical places, not really.Â
And Hogsmeade just happened to be one of his favorite places to go. And sure, he couldnât deny Honeydukes was probably the mean reason why. The shop was full of students today though, and he couldnât really go anywhere without bumping into someone. Still, the least he could do was not be rude.Â
âExcuse me, pardon me,â he said, reaching to gently tap a young man on the shoulder. âMind if I scoot by you? If that last bit of fudge there get snatched off the shelf I might just have a meltdown.Â
As a mother, knowing that threats were a common thing in his life didnât sit well. Raven listened attentively as he talked about his other mother and hoped they had a good relationship. It seemed his relationship with the âfatherâ seemed decent enough he was willing to donate something for him. That must have been a difficult pill to swallow, knowing that the people who raised you werenât actually your parents.
âYeah and Iâm really impressed. Youâve had quite a life. Your dad seemedâŚuh⌠unconventional.â She wasnât sure where he stood, in terms of how his relationship with his father so she tried not to offend him. âHarvard is no small feat. Congratulations on that. I went to MIT, right up the road.â This still felt so surreal.
âWere you happy⌠with them? Did they treat you well?â
âCreepy? Psychotic?â Malcolm laughs. People always tend to dance around the term Serial Killer. âYeah, it was weird.â Heâs not offended. Itâs a strange thing, knowing someone with the connections Malcolm has. Dani and JT are still getting used to it, after nearly a year together.Â
âThanks.â Funnily enough, thatâs not something heâs often congratulated on. Being the son of a world reknowned surgeon has that effect, he supposes. Many people wondered or assumed he would go into medicine... or killing. He chose neither.Â
âThis might surprise you, but... yes. I was. My mother is a good woman, and my father...â He hesitates, unsure how to word what his thoughts want him to say. âBefore everything was found out, we were very close.âÂ
What is it that makes a man, a man? A wizard? What makes a person who they are? Is it the trials they have faced, or the joys? The enemies, or the friends? For Draco, it took him quite some time to realize that it was all of the above. For everything heâs faced, he has become a better man for it. Not perfect, no. Perfection is an illusion. Even still, he takes pride in what heâs been able to accomplish. His career, his family, the changes he made to his family name and reputation. There will always be people who sneer at him, turn up their noses at the reminder stained into his forearm. Thatâs fine.Â
A mans mistakes are as much a part of him as his triumphs, after all. Even with all this, he must acknowledge that a part of him remains juvenile. The name Potter brings with it an old and familiar judgement and hesitance. The rejection that eleven year old Malfoy faced has burrowed itâs roots deep.Â
When Harry Potter went on to build his own family, he was neither surprised nor upset. It is to be expected of their age and generation, after all. What did surprise him, was the relationship - or lack there of - he seemed to have with said family. With Draco staying under the radar, it was easy to just observe. It was not joy or smug approval he felt as he watched the family suffer.Â
Itâs easy to imagine then, isnât it, that when James Sirius Potter started lurking around, Draco could understand why. He knew what it was. The same signs he sees in James, he remembers in himself. The shadow of anger under the arrogance. The flash of trauma beneath the smirks and smiles.Â
Hidden below the flirtations and banter, Draco sees the potential. Untapped and ready for use. He sees it, and he calls it forward. âYou will intern at my firm from today forward, do you understand?â It is not a question. It is not an opportunity he will allow to be rejected. âWhat you do reflects not just on yourself, but on me as well now. You will get your life in order.â He reads shock in those (beautiful) eyes, but he will not stay to see what else is in them. He has work to do, and now, so does James.Â
Days, weeks, months pass. Malfoy finds himself growing accustomed to the flirtatious compliments, the innuendos, the smiles that ease the ache around his own heart in a frustratingly confusing way. He is too young.Â
In an attempt to bury what he may or may not be feeling, he calls upon an old friend. At the house the first two times, and the third time Zabini comes by the office uncalled. Although nothing untoward happened, the look in the young redheads eyes when Blaise left was more than enough for Draco to realize that theyâre both in a pinch of trouble.Â
When the time comes for James to be promoted to official Advocatus, a swell of pride overwhelms him. Not for his part in this, not at all. Itâs a rare occurrence when Malfoy is purely proud of someone elseâs accomplishments. Aside from his son, heâs never had this for anyone else before.Â
An office party is thrown. Somewhere between pumpkin juice and fire whiskey, heâs got James against his desk as he tastes the sounds heâs only previously dreamt of. Losing himself to this man proves to be far too easy.Â
And yet as time passes, he does not fight it. After a hard days work, the ache of his bones melts away when he feels deceptively strong arms wind around him. The sense of home, and love, and family â it is both foreign in himself as a person and familiar in his relationship with James at this point. He knows that, to society, this can and likely will be seen as wrong. Itâs fine, he thinks. His life is full of those sorts of things. The difference here is that James is not a mistake.Â
James Potter being in his arms is a triumph, and one he will fight to keep.Â
This is the last time he lets Lydia set him up on a date. The last, he swears. Yeah the guys cute â pale ginger, freckles everywhere, kinda his type. The issue lies in the fact heâs an absolute fucking douchebag. Heâs a know it all, the type of guy who tried to order for Stiles at dinner and bought him champagne after Stiles told him he didnât want to drink that night.Â
Well, he wasted his own money. Now theyâre at a concert. Heâs heard of the band. Though he canât say heâs listened much. College does that to a person. Stiles jumped through the ranks of the FBI, but now heâs interning, working and studying all at the same time. Aiming for the BAU is a dream many would scoff at. An incredibly selective program is bad enough, but one that requires multiple degrees and experience on top of it? Noahâs worried about his son.Â
Stiles had to call off work and call in a favor to even go on this date tonight, and heâs not exactly happy. Theyâre in the third row, so heâs getting a good show at least. He lost his date to some buff bear type of guy about twenty minutes ago and good riddance, honestly. The music isnât too bad, and if he shakes himself out of his cranky mood, he might even enjoy it. The lead singer is hot, too.Â

Stiles isnât entirely sure when his life became... this. Itâs Halloween, and instead of being at a party with Scott and Lydia, heâs chillinâ in his bed with the British exchange student. Though something about the way he handles himself and his confidence tells Stiles thatâs not all he is. His instincts havenât failed him yet.Â
Freaked out? Pfft. Stiles gives him a look of mock offense, scoffing. âIt takes more than a movie to freak me out.âÂ
Still. He grabs the remote and presses play, then flops back into the bed. If he shimmies and uses Jamesâ arm as an armrest, well... he offered. Heâs been going back and forth, mentally, about if James has been flirting. He canât decide. The manâs a flirtatious one in general, how is he to know if heâs serious?Â
The question comes naturally. Instinctively. How many years ago was it now? When Bellamy Blake was picked up by his biological father from the foster home they all inhabited, and John Murphy uncharacteristically spoke up -- promising vehemently to take care of Octavia on his behalf. That turned into him completely turning his life around. No more bullshit. Reluctantly following authority until he could be his own.Â
He worked two jobs through high school, dropped out to save money and buy a little starter home with two bedrooms. He did everything the courts told him, at times getting six hours of sleep in a week to work enough.Â
Somehow, he was granted custody of Octavia when she was thirteen. Heâs been her guardian ever since. He just got off work, and is picking her up from practice.Â
