The treatment of lesbian characters over all is ridiculous. The amount of them who dies or have sex with/for men is absurd. Wake up, Hollywood!
How does one start a fandom?
Its always strange whenever I first dip a toe into a new community of fans of something I like. There are fandoms for everything these days, and at times I wonder as an artist how my own work could be a catalyst for such a thing. I’ll be writing a piece for the novel and think about the foreshadowing to lay in a scene. I consider plot points and how to characterize a villain.
So when I get comments back from beta readers about characters like “Ifsii” or even “Ewin” I get all excited. As I plan the next novel I make mental notes of the new experiences and views I want to bring to the world. Much of my influence for ideas does come from modern events, and modern problems. I watch other writers and sit back and try to figure out how best to create a story that speaks to readers without breaking the trust I hope to build.
I guess that is how I see when I move to build a community and a fandom. I see it as a moment of -trust- built and maintained by DasWyrd and its followers. We can’t exist without fans, and that’s just a fact. If we lost that trust we lose fans, and we cease to be able to do what we love, which is making stories.

the reason people in the industry respond so positively to the 'lexa pledge' is because it's exactly the type of vague non-committing positive gesture they want to see. It's exactly the type of thing they can interpret and abuse the way they see fit.
