âDid you have a good time with Talia?â Bruce asked, welcoming Damian into the house. Damian nodded, raising a bundle wrapped in brown paper up towards Bruce.Â
âYes. Mother brought me downtown and we visited the art store.âÂ
âThatâs great,â said Bruce genuinely. Ever since theyâd started working towards co-parenting, he and Talia had been collaborating with one another a lot more in regards to Damian, who seemed fairly pleased with the new system. âIâd love to see it all in a moment.âÂ
Damian didnât quite smile, but the harsh lines of his face softened, a sight that always pleased Bruce. They were leaps and bounds away from the angry child heâd been when heâd first arrived to Gotham.Â
âGoodbye, Habibi,â Talia said, leaning down to hug Damian, who leaned into her touch. Heâd hit a growth spurt recently, so she didn't have to lean down as far as she once would have. Bruce turned slightly away as Talia kissed Damianâs forehead, not wanting to intrude on their moment. Damian squirmed slightly, but didnât try very hard to get out of her hold, most likely because he truly didn't mind it. âBe good for your father, okay?âÂ
Damian looked up at Talia. âI always am, Mother. You should be telling him to be good for me.âÂ
Talia straightened, eyes dancing with amusement. âShould I? Has he been acting up?âÂ
Damian nodded seriously. âRemember the history project I was telling you about? He will not let me make a replica of one of the Tameranean blaster guns. I even said I would take off the lethal settings!âÂ
âPreposterous,â Talia agreed, but she was smiling.Â
âDamian,â Bruce began, knowing it was fruitless. When the two of them teamed up, he was no match. âI already told you. No using technology normal students wouldnât have access to to create a weapon, that again, normal students shouldnât have access to. Especially since youâll be bringing it to school, and last I checked, your school has a very strict no-weapons policy.âÂ
âBah,â Damian huffed, and it was Bruceâs turn to smile. âWhat is the point of making a replica of something to do with superheroes if I cannot even make anything interesting?âÂ
âThere are lots of interesting things you can make, Damian,â Bruce pointed out. âYou just donât want to make anything for show only.âÂ
âWell, why would he?â Talia asked. âIf heâs going to make a replica, it should be as close to the source material as possible.âÂ
âStop,â Bruce groaned. âThe both of you. Damian, go see if Alfred wants any help.âÂ
âFine,â Damian agreed with a long-suffering sigh. âGoodbye, Mother.âÂ
âI will see you next weekend, Habibi,â Talia said, and Damian disappeared into the house, leaving just them.Â
âYou should really stop encouraging him,â Bruce admonished lightly. âHeavens know I already have trouble with Jason giving him ideas.âÂ
âBut however else shall I entertain myself?â Talia asked innocently, widening her eyes. Bruce scrubs a hand down his face, even as his chest fills with warmth.Â
âIâm sure you can find something.âÂ
Talia only laughs. âHave a good rest of your weekend, Beloved.âÂ
âYou too, Talia,â Bruce replied. âAnd thank you for taking him to the art store. Iâd been meaning to take him, but havenât had the time.âÂ
âConsider it nothing.â Talia waved her hand through the air. âIâm only further establishing myself as the âbetter parentâ, you know.âÂ
âRight, right,â Bruce said. Theyâre quiet for a moment, but itâs a comfortable sort of silence, one that doesnât need to be filled.Â
âItâs nice getting to do this,â Talia says, as if sheâs divulging some great secret. âIâve missed you.âÂ
âIâve missed you too.â Bruce doesnât let himself think too hard about the words heâs saying. âI believe Damian is happy too.âÂ
âThatâs all Iâve ever wanted for him,â Talia said, looking past him to where Damian had scampered off to.Â
âI know,â Bruce said. âI know.âÂ

Ⳡbrutalia day four: secret relationship | talia needs/gets a hug
âł .9k | rated g |Â m.list
Dick tip-toes down the stairs to the Batcave, knowing full well he isn't supposed to be up. But how is he supposed to go back to sleep when he had had a nightmare? It isn't his fault!Â
Voices float up to him as he got closer and closer to the Batmobile, and he pauses, trying to make them out. One of them is definitely Bruceâs, but the other, he can't quite place. It is definitely a girlâs voice, Dick could tell that much, and he gasps. Who could he be talking to, especially down in the Batcave? Maybe it is Ms. Diana?Â
Continuing his descent, Dick tries his very best to be silent, like Bruce had taught him. He knows he shouldnât be snooping, but B wants him to be a detective, doesn't he?Â
Slowly peeking over the railing, Dick squints into the dim light. Thereâs Bruce, at the Batcomputor, but the angle is all wrong so he canât see whoâs on the screen. B doesnât have his mask on, which only furtherâs Dickâs hypothesis (look at him using one of his vocab words! Bruce will be so pleased!) that itâs Ms. Diana. But, even as he congratulates himself on his super awesome detective work, he knows that thatâs not quite right. The voice is huskier and more accented than Ms. Dianaâs is.Â
Stopping at the bottom of the stairs, Dick gulps. Will Bruce get mad at him if he gets caught snooping? He hasnât gotten mad at him yet but it could happen! What if Dick gets grounded, or worse, benched?Â
Steeling his nerves, Dick reminds himself that Bruce said good detectives have to take risks sometimes. He can do this!Â
Sticking close to the wall of the cave, Dick creeps to the left, trying to get a better look at his computer. He canât believe B hasnât noticed him yet; his skills must be really improving!Â
His bare feet make the slightest noises on the stone floor, but Dick doesnât think itâs loud enough to attract Bruceâs attention. He finally gets to a spot where he can see Bruceâs friend, and itâs not someone that he recognizes. Sheâs dark-skinned, and kind of looks like one of the performers in Pop Halyâs circus group who had been South Asian. Maybe she was from somewhere similar?Â
Curiosity growing, Dick moves forward, crouching low to stay out of the web camâs view. He turns hus attention to the conversation, and realizes with a start that theyâre talking about him!Â
âYes, Dick is a very smart boy,â Bruce is saying, and a frisson of pride runs through him. If Bruce says it, it must be true! The lady says something in return, but he still canât quite hear her, so he gets even closer, until heâs right behind Bâs chair, able to peek up and around it at the lady.Â
âIâd like to meet him sometime,â the lady says, and Dick waits eagerly for Bruceâs reply. When it doesnât come, he does something really brave.Â
âHi!â Dick says, popping up from behind Bruce. âIâm Dick!â
Bruce startles so badly it makes Dick snort. So much for being aware of everything as Batman!Â
âDick,â Bruce says, a little panicked. âWhat are you doing up?âÂ
âI had a nightmare,â Dick says with a pout, almost having forgotten all about it. Bruce softens and Dick takes his chance to climb up into his lap so he can look directly into the camera. âWhatâs your name? Are you Bâs friend?â He gasps. âAre you his girlfriend? Oooh, Bruce, Iâm telling Alfred!âÂ
âWhy, hello there, Dick,â the lady says, and Dick thinks sheâs very pretty. He tells her as much and B makes a really weird, strangled sound.Â
âDick,â he groans, and Dick looks back at him innocently.Â
âHm?âÂ
âThis is Talia,â Bruce says after a long moment. âSheâs a very special friend of mine.âÂ
âEveryone knows âspecial friendâ just means girlfriend,â Dick says with a roll of his eyes. Even he knows that much because he overheard two of the older boys at school talking about it.Â
âAh, you caught me,â Bruce says, still making a weird face. Dick turns his attention back to Talia.Â
âHi, Ms. Talia!â He grins at the camera, and Talia smiles back. Dick decided he likes her. âAre you two in a secret relationship?âÂ
âOne could say that,â Talia says gravely, and Dick wiggles in excitement. So cool!Â
âSo nobody knows?âÂ
âVery few people do,â Talia answers, and Dick looks back at Bruce. Heâs so going to tell Alfred on him!Â
âTalia, I should put him back to bed,â Bruce says after a few more minutes, and Dick pouts. He wanted to talk with Ms. Talia more!Â
âCan we talk again?â Dick asks, and Bruce sighs.Â
âSure, but not right now, okay?âÂ
Pacified, Dick says his goodbyes to Ms. Talia, who also seems sad to see him go. When Bruce hangs up the call, Dick looks up at him with puppy-dog eyes. ââM not sorry for eavesdropping because I was just being a good detective, okay? So I canât get in trouble!âÂ
âIs that right?â B asks, and Dick nods vigorously. Bruce moves to stand, and Dick clings to him, forcing Bruce to hold him when he does.Â
âCan I sleep with you tonight?âÂ
Bruce shifts Dick until heâs mostly on his hip. âOnly if you donât tell Alfred on me.âÂ
âItâs a deal!â Dick says, but his fingers are crossed behind his back. Heâs totally going to tattle!

âł brutalia day one: masquerade | justice league finds out
âł .7k | rated t | m.list
Bruce felt numerous eyes on him, trailing over his dark figure. While he knew who many of the guests around him were despite the masks fitted over their eyes, he knew most were oblivious as to who he was. That was the point of a masquerade after all- anonymity, intrigue. The lights were dimmed for a reason.Â
The mission was simple. One of the more affluent guests of the party was suspected to be involved in an underground trafficking ring, one that had only popped up recently. Bruce felt his blood boil just thinking about it. How could anyone do something like that to children? To innocent, defenseless kids? Â
Smoothly accepting a thin-stemmed glass of champagne from a passing waiter, Bruce pressed his lips to the rim of the glass, not actually drinking any of the liquid. It was cool in the slightly warm room, and Bruce couldnât stop himself from licking his lips as he pulled the glass away. His target for the night was too busy laughing with an elegantly dressed blonde woman to pay any attention to the other attendees of the party. His mistake.Â
âWhy, hello there,â someone purred in his ear, and Bruce whirled around. How had someone approached without him noticing? As he took in the person before him, that, at least, started to make a bit more sense.Â
âTalia,â he said. Even with the ornate mask covering the top half of her face, no doubt real gold, he still recognized her.Â
âBeloved,â Talia acknowledged. âI wasnât expecting to see you here.â She swept her long, dark hair back, golden bracelets jingling slightly, barely audible above the music. âShall we dance?âÂ
Though the question caught him slightly off-guard, Bruce accepted without hesitation, taking her callused hand in his. The waltz was simple, and they moved in tandem, the movements coming easily to the both of them. Bruceâs mind flashed back to the last time they had danced, in Taliaâs quarters in Nanda Parbat, and he knew, without asking, that she was thinking of that night too.Â
âWhy are you here?â Bruce asked quietly, aware of the eyes on him, now them, that have multiplied tenfold. âYouâre pretty far from home.âÂ
âFor the same reason as you, I suspect, although unless youâre also focused on the blonde woman over there, I doubt we have the same person of interest.âÂ
Bruce followed her gaze but he already had a feeling he knew which woman she was referring to. And he was right, as she had indeed pointed out the lady leaning into his target. âNo, but coincidentally Iâve been focused on the man currently with her.âÂ
âA coincidence indeed,â Talia murmured as her hand slid down his back. He shivered the slightest bit, something that undoubtedly didnât escape her notice. âWhat did he do?âÂ
âChild trafficking,â Bruce replied, and her lips twisted in clear displeasure. âAnd her?âÂ
âArt smuggling.âÂ
âNot your usual type of target,â Bruce observed, and Talia shrugged fluidly.Â
âWhen itâs items of great historical and cultural value that rightfully belong at home in my country Iâm a little more inclined to pay attention.âÂ
Bruce had no response for that so he simply turned her with a little more vigor than he had been. The music was slowing, the song coming to an end, and Bruce knew that their time together was also coming to a close. There was nothing he could do about it, and it was for the best, and yet he still ached deep inside, remembering their time together when he had trained with the League.Â
As if she could sense his thoughts, Talia reached up and stroked her knuckle down the side of his jaw. âDo not fret, Beloved,â she said lightly. âYouâre much more handsome when youâre calm, though I doubt the shadows under your eyes will ever be fully banished. But you and I, we will see each other again soon.âÂ
She pressed a firm but chaste kiss to his stunned lips as the last notes hung in the air, then pulled away, disappearing into the throngs of masked attendees. Bruce watched where she had vanished for a moment, but he knew that he would not see her again that night.Â

Ⳡbrutalia day three: royalty au | getting back together
âł .9k | rated t |Â m.list
Talia stared at the man in front of her, taking in every inch. Her guards had him contained well enough, so she didnât fear his escape - or his attack, had that been his goal - meaning so was fairly relaxed, or, well, as much as once could be on such an uncomfortable throne.Â
âThis is the spy?â Talia asked, looking to the guards that held him. They were two of her most trusted, so she had no qualms that they had captured the correct man. And this man, he did look like a spy, all broad-shouldered and handsome, enough so to charm but not so much as to particularly stand out.Â
âYes, Your Majesty,â one of her guards said, tone cool. âWe apprehended him along the Eastern Border of the castle, where he was attempting to get to the stable.âÂ
âI see.â Leaning forward on the throne so she could more properly examine the man, Talia pressed her lips together. âWhat is your name? Your real name.âÂ
The manâs blue eyes would have pinned her to her seat were she a lesser woman. âI donât see what I should tell you.âÂ
âThe swords at your throat should be a proper incentive,â Talia said. âAnd the easier all of this is, the easier it will be for you in the coming days.âÂ
The spy scoffed. âAnd I should believe you becauseâŚ?âÂ
It had been a long time since anyone had dared speak to her with such impudentness, and it was oddly refreshing. A shark-like smile spread across her lips. âBecause you donât have any choice but to,â she replied frankly. âYou are in my throne room, surrounded by my guards, and since Iâm the one whoâs deciding what would be done with you, itâs best you consider your words carefully.âÂ
âWayne,â the man said in response. âThat is my name.âÂ
âWayne,â repeated Talia, sitting back and crossing her legs. âA name I am unfamiliar with. And where are you from, Wayne?âÂ
The man - Wayne, Talia reminded herself - hesitated. Talia flicked her head slightly and the edge of the guardsâ swords pressed a little more firmly into his neck. âGotham,â he eventually said, and Taliaâs eyebrows rose.
âGotham? Well, arenât you a long way from home?âÂ
Wayne said nothing.Â
âWhat was your goal here, Wayne? What mission were you on?âÂ
âAny good spy wouldnât reveal this information. Especially not without being tortured first.âÂ
Surprised, Talia laughed before she could stop herself. âIf thatâs something you want, well, Iâm sure it could be arranged.âÂ
Wayne grinned, his teeth surprisingly white compared to the dirt and grime on his tanned face. âOh, no, donât go out of your way for me. But if you must know-âÂ
âAnd I think I must,â Talia interjected drily.
â-I was here to gain information about King Raâs, so imagine my surprise when I found his daughter on the throne, with no record of what had happened to the previous king.âÂ
It had been nearly a half-year since Talia had overtaken him, taking her place as ruler. It was surprising that the news hadnât traveled, although she supposed if he were making the journey from Gotham, he may have left before that had happened, especially since she was still pinning down exactly how long heâd been under her nose.
âAh, my father.â Talia couldnât stop her nose from wrinkling. âHeâs been taken care of. So you were sent here to spy on him and he wasnât here. Why stay?âÂ
Wayne looked at her as if she were dumb. âMy mission was to learn about the ruler of this kingdom. While when it was first assigned, Raâs was king, you being in power didnât actually change the mission requirements.âÂ
âI see,â Talia said, then remained silent, thinking for a moment. It would be a waste to kill this man, but she couldnât just let him go. Heâd likely try to escape captivity, and it seemed as if his loyalty to Gotham was above no other. What should she do? âWayne, how much are you being paid for your current mission?âÂ
Wayne was reluctant to answer, but when he did, she nodded, her decision made.Â
âIâll give you double that if you join my knights for one year. After that, if you so choose, you may go back to Gotham, no strings attached, all transgressions against the crown forgotten.âÂ
âWhat?â Wayne said, truly thrown off his game for the first time since heâd been brought in to meet her.Â
âI can ever have a contract drawn up, if youâd like,â Talia said lightly, enjoying herself.Â
âI would like,â Wayne flatly agreed. âI suppose the other option is death?âÂ
Talia shrugged fluidly. âThe choice is up to you.âÂ
âBut why would you do this?â Wayne asked. âEmploy a spy working against you, inviting him into your most trusted ranks?âÂ
âYou seem like a good man, Wayne,â Talia replied. âAnd it seems like a waste to kill you when youâd be so helpful otherwise. Do we have an agreement?âÂ
Wayne stared into her eyes, and Talia relished the challenge in his gaze. âOnce the contract is drawn up and I deem all components fair, then yes.âÂ
âLovely.â Talia smirked. âBring him to one of the empty rooms in the North Wing. And you,â she said to a scribe by the door, âhave a contract drawn up then bring it to me when completed.âÂ
âYes, Your Majesty,â they all said, and Talia watched as Wayne was forced away, liking to see him leave very much indeed.Â

"So, whatâs your plan?â Duke asks, and Stephanie returns her attention to her plan, which sheâd painstakingly come up with, making first and second drafts until her wastebasket had been filled with papers.Â
âWhatâs one thing that Bruce hates?â she poses, and everyone thinks for a moment.Â
âPeople messing with his stuff,â Cass says, and again, this is why Stephanie loves her!
âExactly!â she says. âTo Cass, not the rest of you. Bruce canât stand when his carefully organized stuff is out of place. Bruce keeps his Batsuit in his case, does he not? All we need to do is get down there, get into the case, spray paint the suit, and make it seem like it was Tim, Jay, and Dick.â
âI have an idea,â Stephanie says, climbing up on the dining room table, like a queen holding court. Duke, Cass, and Damian, her loyal subjects (the people in the room), barely spare her a glance before going back to their breakfasts. âGuys,â she groans, stealing a piece of toast off of Cassâ plate, âlisten up.â
âFine,â Damian acquiesces, somehow managing to look down his nose at her, even though he has to look up to see her. âWhat is this âideaâ? Surely not another foolish scheme to get us in trouble with Father?âÂ
Stephanie scoffs. âWhen have I ever got us in trouble with Bruce?âÂ
Three pairs of eyes side-eye her.Â
âOkay, whatever. But no, if everything goes right, itâll get Tim, Jason, and Dick in trouble with him.â She sprays crumbs a little as she says this, and Duke wordlessly gives her a napkin, which she thanks him profusely for. âRemember that time we got blamed for stealing the Batmobile when it was them? Iâve been biding my time, coming up with a great revenge plan, and I think I finally have it.âÂ
âIâm in,â Cass says, no questions asked. This is why Stephanie loves her, and she says as much.Â
âI had forgotten about that,â Damian says slowly. âWe suffered under that grounding for entirely too long. I have bleach stains on my favorite shirt because of Alfredâs tyrannical rule.âÂ
âOh yeah, you were forced to clean the bathrooms, werenât you?â Stephanie asks, and Damian wrinkles his nose.
âIt was terrible.âÂ
She shudders delicately, thankful sheâd been given the animals. It had been gross, but not nearly that gross.Â
Remember when Tim accidentally filed that case in the wrong place?âÂ
Tim had been morose for weeks afterward.Â
âThat sucked,â Duke says, and Damian waves a hand.Â
âDrake deserved it. Everyone knows theyâre sorted alphabetically by last name, not first. It was a novice mistake.âÂ
âMy fault,â Cass says suddenly, and they all turn to look back at her. She smiles devilishly, eyes glinting. âI borrowed the file. Put it back wrong. But no one knew, and Tim was the last person before me to have it.âÂ
âYouâre evil,â Damian says, approval clear in his voice. âIt is no less than Drake deserves. If he were any sort of true detective, he would have swept for fingerprints and checked the camera feeds.âÂ
âHe did,â Cass replies, âbut I am too skilled. The most skilled.âÂ
No one argues because they all know itâs true.Â
âAnyway, back to my plan,â Stephanie says, calling all attention back to her. âBruce keeps his Batsuit in his case, does he not? All we need to do is get down there, get into the case, spray paint the suit, and make it seem like it was Tim, Jay, and Dick.âÂ
âAnd how would we do that?âÂ
Stephanie smirks. âOne: Iâve been collecting their fingerprints for months now, so itâll be easy to transfer them to the case and suit. Not enough to be suspiciously obvious, but the edge of a palm here. The barest hint of a thumb there. Two: Jason threatened to do it about a year ago, something Bruce doubtlessly remembers, as he increased security on the case shortly after it was brought up. Jason has probably long forgotten about it but thereâs no way Bruce has. Three: I bought the spray paint using one of Timâs secret cards that he thinkâs Bruce doesnât know about and had it delivered to one of Dickâs safehouses. Heâll never suspect it was us.âÂ
âAnd how do you know Bruce is aware of Timâs card?â Damian asked, arms crossed. Stephanie detects the barest hint of respect in his voice and preens.Â
âAbout a month ago, I âaccidentallyâ revealed it to Bruce,â Stephanie says, complete with air quotes and all. âWell, not that card, but a different one. I knew if Bruce suspected Tim had more heâd go digging them up, and Iâm sure heâs found it by now.â
âThe cameras,â Cass says, and Stephanie winks at her.Â
âI already have that covered. Babs owes Duke here a favor and I was hoping-â she puts her hands together, blinking prettily at Duke â-that you'd be willing to use it for this.âÂ
âGordon owes you?â Damian asks, perhaps in awe. âHow in the world did that happen?âÂ
Stephanie and Duke share a look, remembering their promise to never reveal the exact events of that night.Â
âUnimportant,â Duke says firmly. âBut Steph, I donât know if I should use my favor on this. What if I need it in the future for something more important?âÂ
Stephanie gasps. âMore important? Duke Reginald Thomas, you take that right back!âÂ
âNot my middle name,â Duke interjects, but Stephanie is undeterred from her passionate and rousing speech.Â
âDo you not remember how Dick would laugh as we worked out butts off? How Jason would go and make a mess of a room youâd just vacuumed? I think he bought sunflower seeds specifically to spill them! Do you guys not feel anger in your veins when you think about how Tim scolded us for doing something so reckless when it was his grubby little hands that were on the wheel of the Batmobile, not ours? How can you stand for this? We must get back at them, regain our dignity and honor! Whoâs with me!âÂ
Cass claps politely and Stephanie does a few mock bows, still seated atop the table.Â
âI suppose Iâll do it,â Duke says, but Stephanie can see the fire sheâs lit inside of him, because sheâs the coolest and absolutely the best for motivational speeches. Hey, maybe she should see if Bruce will start letting her do them before they go out on missions. That would be awesome.Â
âIâm in,â Cass says again, and Damian nods.Â
âI am in as well. They shall feel the burn of our wrath when they are the ones forced to wipe down the toilet seat!âÂ
Stephanie shudders again, and Cass makes a disgusted face. Their bathroom is nowhere near as nasty as the boysâ shared one is, something sheâs incredibly grateful for.Â
âGreat!â Stephanie cheers, clapping her hands together. âLetâs go somewhere to flesh out the rest of these details where we can really plan! To your Titans base, Damian!âÂ
âWhat?â Damian squawks as Stephanie ungracefully climbs off of the table. âWhy my base?âÂ
âBest place,â Cass says, and Stephanie beams. Damian, knowing he is beaten, merely sighs, gathering his plate with an air of long-suffering about him.Â
*
A few days later finds them going over the plan one last time with Babs, crowding around her chair in the Clocktower.Â
âYou all know your jobs?â Stephanie asks, and receives four nods.Â
âYes,â Damian says. âI am to distract father, pretending Grayson put me up to the task.âÂ
âIâm making sure Jason, Dick, and Tim stay away from the cave,â Duke puts in. They had decided to do it on a night when they were home, maximizing risk, but minimizing the chances of any of them having an alibi. âAre you sure theyâre not going to suspect me?âÂ
âOh, Duke,â Stephanie says, âtheyâre not going to have a clue.âÂ
âFingerprints,â Cass volunteers, âand helping with the case.âÂ
âIâll scrub footage as you go and help with access to the case as well,â Babs says, and Stephanie gives in to the urge to rub her hands together like a low-rate villain. Or her father.
âItâs all coming together,â she croons. âAnd Iâll be painting the Batsuit. Iâve got a suit to wear but underneath it will be Jasonâs hoodie, and if traces of paint are accidentally found on it⌠well, that would be terrible for him!âÂ
âLetâs do this,â Duke says, and they all nod.Â
After driving back to the manor (Bruce would track if they zeta-ed), they all split up. Babs had lent them some of her comms, and after Stephanie has gathered the clothes and things she needs, all hidden underneath a blanket she holds as part of her ruse, she puts it in, sounding off.Â
âAlright, everyone is in position,â Babs says, and Stephanie nods, even though no one except for Babs can see her.Â
âItâs go time.âÂ
Passing Damian in the hall, they share a short look but otherwise disregarded one another, set on completing their parts. She stops in the kitchen for a snack, mentioning to Alfred her plan to hang out on the patio for a while, then goes back towards the direction of Bruceâs study, again passing Damian, whoâs accompanied by Bruce. She scrubs a hand over Damianâs hair, taking care to make sure everything seems normal, but sheâs not fully sure if the hiss he gives her is part of the act or not. Either way, it does the trick, allowing her to slip into the study once Bruce has rounded the corner.Â
Cass is already in the Batcave when she gets down there, carefully placing fingerprints in the pre-determined locations. Stephanie makes quick work of getting dressed, shaking the neon orange and green paint bottles with vigor. By the time she makes it to the case, Babs and Cass have already worked their magic and itâs easy for her to spray it down, using her non-dominant hand just in case. In case of what, sheâs not sure, but she feels like Bruce would be able to determine what hand was used or something like that, just because it's Bruce.Â
âIâm done,â she whispers, to Cass and into her comm, hastily climbing out of the paint-speckled protection suit, taking care, to wipe the tiniest bit along the seam of Jasonâs sleeve. âIâm going to put the hoodie in the laundry room then go to the patio.Â
âOkay,â Duke says quietly, âIâve still got all of them with me.
âIâm still with father,â Damian confirms.Â
âAnd Iâll finish scrubbing data and footage,â Babs says, and Stephanie and Cass share a high-five. Theyâd pulled this off perfectly!
*
âI know you were behind this,â Tim mutters as Stephanie leans against the doorway, watching him apply new grout to the entryway tiles.Â
âConsider it payback,â Stephanie says, smug. âDid you really think Iâd let the Batmobile thing go?âÂ
Tim curses, low and long, and Stephanie gives him a little wave, skipping off into the house. Maybe she can find Dick or Jason and rub it in their faces too.Â
âStephanie,â Bruce calls as she passes his study, and she turns, popping her head in with a smile.Â
âYes, Bossman?âÂ
âShut the door.âÂ
Stephanie refuses to be cowed as she shuts the door and drops into one of the seats, casual as can be. âWhatâs up?âÂ
âI know youâre behind the painting of my suit,â he says, and it takes everything in her to not pale. Before she can argue, though, he holds up a hand. âIâm not going to punish you. Rather, I called you in to congratulate you. You pulled it off almost perfectly, and I can see that youâre improving leaps and bounds in your skills.âÂ
âAlmost perfectly?â Stephanie echoes, distraught. âNo! I thought I had it all covered! What went wrong?âÂ
Bruceâs mouth twitches like heâs trying to hide a smile and he pulls out a piece of paper. Stephanie instantly recognizes it as one of her earlier drafts of her plan, done up in purple glitter pen.Â
âI need to write my thoughts down,â she defends lamely, and Bruce slides her the paper. She crumples it in her pocket, inwardly chastising herself.
âNext time, destroy the evidence,â Bruce tells her. âAlfred found it when he was sorting trash from recycling.âÂ
âGod dammit!â she says, quietly but with a lot of feeling. âIf you know it was me, then why arenât you punishing me?âÂ
âStephanie,â Bruce says. âDo you really think I thought it was you who took out the Batmobile?âÂ
âYou knew?âÂ
âOf course,â Bruce replies. âThe boys were not nearly as careful as you were.âÂ
âIf you knew, then why did we get in trouble? It took forever to wash the smell of barn out of my clothes,â Stephanie whines, remembering having to clean Batcowâs stall.
âI knew youâd retaliate,â Bruce says simply, âand I wanted to see how youâd do. Stephanie, you blew this out of the water. I daresay Iâd have no clue of the real culprits had I not found the plan itself. The skill and tenacity you displayed during this, as well as your ability to manage and coordinate a team, are on a level with some of the members of the JLA. I am supremely impressed.âÂ
âOh,â is all that she can manage. âThanks.âÂ
âOf course,â Bruce says. âNow youâre free to go, and if youâre looking for Jason and Dick, well, I think Alfred put them to work out in the yard, spreading some of Batcowâs manure.â

âł brutalia day five: bodyguard | âi want my beloved to be happyâ
âł .6k | rated t |Â m.list
Bruce wasnât expecting to see a text from Talia, especially one that read Arriving in ten. Be there.
Especially since he didnât see it until seven minutes after it had been delivered. Rushing back down to the Batcave, Bruce wondered what she was doing in Gotham, much less with him. They hadnât spoken in God knows how long.Â
He just managed to get to the Batcomputor console when it alerted him that there was an unauthorized presence on the premises. Quickly disabling the defense systems, Bruce opened the Caveâs door, allowing a small aircraft to enter, smoothly and without hesitation. It was odd that she was visiting him, yes, but even odder that she had done it in such an indiscreet way. He wasnât worried; more concerned, a little wary.Â
When the engine cut, the silence seemed to echo. Bruce waited, arms crossed, and it took but a moment for the food to hiss open, revealing Talia.Â
âTalia, what is this about?â Bruce asked, moving forward to meet her. Talia looked more tired than he remembered, and he hoped everything was going alright back at Nanda Parbat.Â
âBruce, you must promise to keep an open mind,â Talia said, and Bruce knew it was serious. Talia reserved his name for the worst situations.Â
âWhat?â Bruce asked, confusion clear in his voice. âTalia, what is-âÂ
âTrust me.â Taliaâs eyes were a bit wild and instinctively, he leaned back.Â
âYou know I do already,â Bruce said, a bit slowly. âPlease, explain.âÂ
âItâs better if I show you.â Talia turns, back towards the vehicle, and calls for someone to come out. Bruce waits, unable to imagine who - or what - awaited him.Â
Two figures descended the ramp, and Bruce froze. On the left was a small boy, clearly Taliaâs, but Bruce recognizes himself in there as well, and on the right-Â
âJason?â Bruce gasps, staggering towards his son. âImpossible!âÂ
Jason rushed forward to him, throwing himself into Bruceâs arms. Bruce caught him, sinking to his knees. The other child stayed where he was, hesitation clear in his stance. After a long moment, Bruce pulled back from Jason, in order to look in his eyes. His eyes that were now a sickly green.Â
âTalia,â Bruce repeated, voice wavering, âwhat did you do?âÂ
âJason?â Talia prompted, and in his arms, Jason shuddered.Â
âI crawled out of my grave,â Jason said, and Bruceâs mouth fell open. His words are toneless, but Bruce can tell when his boy is hurting. âAnd was picked up by the League. But my injuries and brain damage were so severe that Raâs was going to get rid of me, so Talia put me inâŚâÂ
âThe pit,â Bruce finished hallowly. âOh my God. How did you come back to life?âÂ
âNobody knows,â Talia answered, moving forward to put a hand on his shoulder. Bruce hugged Jason for a few more minutes, in absolute disbelief, before turning his attention to the other boy, hard as it was.Â
âAnd you?â Bruce managed. âWhatâs your name.âÂ
âDamian al Ghul. I mean, Wayne.â The boy - Damian - said stiffly, and Bruce motioned him forward. He didnât want to let got of Jason, instead shaking Damianâs hand over Jasonâs shoulder. âItâs nice to meet you, Father.âÂ
Father. He had seen the evidence of it, but to hear it come out of Damianâs mouth⌠it was surreal.Â
âTalia,â he said. âWhy bring them to me? Why now?âÂ
âBecause,â Talia replied, something almost broken in her voice, âI just want my beloved to be happy.âÂ
There was obviously more to it than that, but for Bruce, it was enough for the time being.

a/n: wdym jason doesn't aggressively care for bruce???
reblogs are highly appreciated lolz
Bruce shrugged, before wincing, hand coming up to clap over the wound. Shit, that was a bad decision.
âWait a fucking minute,â Jason said slowly. âAre you hurt?â
Bruce nodded. âBeing hurt is usually the cause of blood, so Iâd guess I am.â
âNow is not the time for your godawful humor,â Jason grit out. âAnd youâre bleeding? Just from a hit on your armor?â
âI was already injured there,â Bruce explained. âIt opened up my stitches.â
âJesus Christ, Bruce.â Jason abruptly turned away from him and to the medical cabinet. âThis is what you fucking get for interfering, you know that? Get your fucking shirt off so I can see the wound.â
Bruce watched as Jason stormed into the Batcave, throwing his helmet on the floor with a loud clatter.
âWhat the hell was that, Bruce?â he shouted, striding right up to where Bruce sat on one of the medical cots. âHuh? Why the fuck did you do that?â
Bruce stared up at Jason, who practically had smoke coming out of his ears. A little thrill always ran through him when Jason was in the cave, no matter if it was to yell at him or not.
âNo response?â Jason prodded, hands on his hips. âTypical.â
Bruce blinked. âJason, I understand that youâre angry-â
âDamn right I am,â Jason snorted.
â-but I did what I thought was tactically best at the time.â
âBullshit,â snapped Jason. âYou jumped in front of a hit I was prepared to take, intruding on my fight in my territory.â
There was no way for Bruce to explain how heâd acted without thinking, how the sight of one of the goons raising a crowbar had filled him with acrid, bitter fear, so he just remained silent. His shoulder hurt something awful, considering the hit had landed directly on a row of stitches heâd only gotten a few days before.
Jasonâs gaze sharpened at the lack of response. âDid you get hit in the head, old man? Whereâs the lecture, the grunting? Come on, Bruce.â He snapped his fingers a few times for good measure, somehow making the action mocking.
âSorry, Jaylad,â Bruce said without thinking, watching Jason grimace at the old nickname. âI moved on instinct. I shouldnât have gotten involved.â
âYouâre right, you shouldn't have,â Jason agreed. âAnd instincts? What the hell kind of excuse is that? After youâre up my ass all the time about thinking before doing literally anything in the world ?â
Bruce did as he was directed, awkwardly shimmying out of his undersuitâs top. The blood hadnât really shown up on the dark fabric, but it made itself visible as he pulled the material away from his skin. Jason was by his side in an instant, applying pressure to the wound with a clean towel.
âWhatâd you even do to get a slice like this?â Jason asked, pushing harder.
âLucky knife slash through the armor plates,â Bruce managed, voice a little strained. Jason looked up at his face, and Bruce stared back, wondering what he was looking for, what he saw in Bruceâs eyes.
Jason looked away eventually and they sat in silence for a little bit until Jason carefully moved the towel back to look at the state of his arm. âOkay, I think most of the bleeding has stopped,â he said, âand it looks like you popped all of your stitches somehow. Do I have to dig them out or was the degradable thread used?â
âDegradable,â Bruce answered, and Jason sighed in relief.
âGood, because that would have fucking sucked for the both of us.â Jason readied the needle and thread while Bruce held onto the towel, movements practiced and smooth.
âNo painkillers,â Bruce said when Jason moved to grab them, and aside from the raising of his eyebrows, Jason didnât say anything.
Jason began stitching him up with ease, hands steady. Of course heâs got steady hands , Bruce thought, a little hysterically, he shoots guns. Â
Bruce watched Jason's face instead of the needle, drinking in every familiar feature, every new scar.
âYouâre good at this,â he said, clearing his throat. Jason laughed humorlessly.
âI fucking should be. Had to do it to myself enough times.â
The idea of Jason alone in a safehouse or in the mountains somewhere stitching up his wounds made Bruce a little nauseous. He should have been there, or really, Jason shouldnât have been.
âThank you for stitching me up,â Bruce murmured, and Jasonâs eyes flickered to his.
âWell, no one else is here to do it and this is your dominant arm, so.â
They both knew Bruce was basically ambidextrous at this point, but Bruce knew better than to call him out. Jason finished with an exhale, cutting the thread cleanly and wrapping a bandage around it. Bruce moved his arm around, thankful there wasnât any weird tugging on any part of his skin. When he returned his attention back to Jason, he was washing his hands, plastic gloves already in the biohazard bin.
âIâm still pissed at you,â Jason warned, perhaps feeling Bruceâs eyes on him.
âAs you should be,â Bruce agreed mildly. âI shouldnât have jumped in front of the hit like that.â
Jason squinted at him, gaze heavy. âWho are you and what have you done with Bruce?â he asked, and Bruce rolled his eyes.
âStill me, Jaylad. I am capable of admitting when Iâm wrong, you know.â
âRight, and Alfred has a full head of hair,â Jason shot back. Bruce did his best to hide his smile, but he knew it still peeked through a little bit.
âYou staying?â he asked Jason, who stiffened. âYou donât have to. I just thoughtâŚâ
âShut up,â Jason barked, before continuing, quieter. âFine. Just for tonight, got it? And Iâm not staying for breakfast.â
âWeâll see about that,â Bruse said. Alfred would persuade him, he always did.
âShut up,â Jason said again. âNow can you manage yourself from here or do I have to do anything else for your sorry ass while Iâm at it?â
âI think Iâve got it,â Bruce replied. âThanks again, chum.â
âWhatever.â Jason ducked his head. âIâm gonna shower.â
Bruce watched him go, chest swelling. Things with Jason werenât great, obviously, but he lived for moments like these, moments where Jason grudgingly let him in, reluctantly opened up a little. The moments were few and far between, but Bruce cherished them all. It was tiring to fight with Jason all of the time, but god, heâd take it any day over not speaking to him.
âStop staring at me, you creep,â Jason called without turning around. âGo change your clothes.â
âFine, fine,â Bruce said, the smile he didn't bother to hide this time clear in his voice. âLove you, Jay.â
âYeah, whatever, old man,â Jason returned, but his tone wasnât outright hateful so Bruce would take it as a win.

Ⳡbrutalia day six: childhood friends au | bruce needs/gets a hug
âł .4k | rated t |Â m.list
Bruce lets out a shuddering breath, looking down at Damianâs still form. His son s hooked up to all sorts of machines and monitors, and though heâs been stabilized, Bruce canât calm down.Â
His son had almost died, and he-
Swallowing hard, Bruce gently runs his hand through Damianâs hair. Damian is still under his touch, which, while expected, is still hard to see firsthand.Â
Bruce is saved from spiraling and more by the sound of footsteps behind him.Â
âHow is he?â Talia asks, and Bruce moves aside to let her get nearer to him. He had called her immediately after Damian had gone down, and thankfully, she was in the area and able to get to the hospital quickly.Â
âStable,â Bruce whispers, unable to speak any louder. âThe doctor said heâll be alright.âÂ
Talia places her hand on Damianâs arm, careful not to jostle any of his injuries, and just takes him in. âHow are you?âÂ
When Bruce doesnât reply, she turns to him.Â
âIâmâŚâ Bruce struggles for the words. âHe almost died, Talia.âÂ
âI know,â Talia says. âYou got to him in time through, and now heâll heal.âÂ
âIt was too close,â Bruce says hallowly. âIf I had-âÂ
âThere a million choices that could have been made to prevent this, but also a million more that could have made the situation much, much worse.â Talia pinned him with her heavy gaze. âYou did all that you could, Bruce. And it was more than enough.âÂ
âI should have never allowed there to be a Robin,â Bruce says, shaking his head. Itâs a mantra he repeats every time one of his kids is hurt. Every time.
âOh, Bruce.â Talia pulls him into a hug, and Bruce is so surprised he lets her. He canât remember the last time they hugged. Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul were a decidedly non-tactile couple when theyâd been together, and after they split, thereâd been no reason to hug.Â
He canât deny it's comforting. As he lets himself be soothed, Bruce keeps his eyes on Damian. Your son is alive, he tells himself, verging on viciously, and thatâs more than enough.Â
Talia says nothing, even though he knows she senses his inner turmoil, and for once, Bruce just lets himself fall apart, knowing sheâs strong enough to catch all of the pieces.Â
