I had an AMAZING time working with letterer and jewelry designer Madiha Malik on this brand new fauxsaic and loved immersing myself in Islamic patterns and motifs. Madiha created the gorgeous geometric Arabic lettering on the on the four sides of this fauxsaic. The words translate (clockwise from the top) to hope, love, peace, and unity, which are particularly meaningful since she has spent the last couple weeks in Izmir, Turkey, assisting Syrian refugees. I’ll let her take it from here: “There is a hidden side of Izmir, where thousands of Syrian refugees are hiding far from civilization, working in fields to earn meager wages, and living with little to no basic resources. Because they are not officially recognized, they have to move every few months and find land elsewhere to avoid detection. Devastation, frustration and desperation looms over their faces as they have nowhere to turn with no support. A team of American volunteers with the help of a local refugee are working to distribute basic supplies to help these families survive. 100% of your contribution via this link goes towards this cause.
