Was able to spend some time in my craft studio today. I’ve only spent enough time in it lately to make messes. . I didn’t have any particular project in mind so I decided to play around with these quilted leaf blocks I had left over from when I made a quilt a few months ago. . I knew I wanted to try making a bag with some of them so I just made this design up as I went along. If I make another one I’ll be sure to choose a fabric for the sides and bottom that doesn’t have an obvious reverse so it’ll look better on the inside. I made some small binding to cover the seams inside, and some wider binding for the top edge. Added some buttons to the ends of the straps just for decoration and I’m pretty happy with that added touch. . The quilt block itself measures 16” square so you can gauge the size of the bag off that. I’m not sure if I’ll make more bags like this or if I’ll try to come up with another style or something else entirely. My leaf quilt is all done!! First I’ve done a quilt as you go method and I think I’ll be doing it a lot more often, as I really like how well it turned out. Got all the strips sewn together for this leaf quilt, now need to sew the sashing between the strips and al that’ll be left is the binding. When I first started, I’d planned on making a king size quilt by placing the blocks 6x6, but after laying some out on the bed I’ve decided to go with a 5x7 layout instead. Now that I finished quilting each individual block I have started putting them together. I watched a few videos on how to do it and I think I’ve got it figured out. For the size I’m making I’ll do 6 strips of 6 blocks, then use the same sashing method to connect them. I’m so amazed by this method that I’m thinking about blowing the dust off a blog site I’ve been paying for for two years (and haven’t posted a single thing on) and posting about it. Also, I somehow miscounted the number of blocks I made. I have 51, not the 50 I thought I had. I’ll only be using 36 in this quilt so I’ll have 15 to use to make other things with. Not sure what yet though. Bags, table runners, wall hangings. Finally able to work on things other than masks today. I free motion quilted 10 more if the leaf blocks I’d made a few months ago. I’m officially at the half way mark with them, 25 done, 25 more to do. Also quilted all the blocks I made for the giant wall clock. Cut them all to shape, snipped and clipped, and glued to the numbers. It’ll take a while to get them fully glued as I only have so many clips. Plus I’m now unsure where I’m going to put it. I worry I irritate people by posting so much. Sorry if I do. My brain and I skip around all over the place and this medium helps me keep track of things and lets me feel like I do accomplish things eventually even if it’s not what most people consider productive. But anyway, I’ve been spending a little time the last couple of evenings and started quilting the leaf quilt block sandwiches together. So far I’ve completed 13 so only 37 more to do. Still thinking up ideas for the 14 that won’t be going in the quilt and also undecided which 36 will go in it.
