South Korea Is Investigating a $30.6M Hack at Upbit β Lazarus Group May Be Behind It
Another major crypto exchange has been hit. Early Monday morning, 44.5B KRW (~$30.6M) was drained from Upbit in a single unauthorized transaction. Investigators quickly noticed something: the method looked very familiar.
It matches the pattern used in the 2019 Upbit hack β a known Lazarus Group operation.
But this time, the attack wasnβt about fancy malware.
Experts believe the hackers used social engineering, credential theft, or even compromised admin access β the same tactic behind the massive Bybit hack earlier this year.
Upbitβs operator, Dunamu, has promised to reimburse all losses.
This incident raises a bigger question for the crypto world:
What happens when the main vulnerability isnβt code, but people?
