It might be a tad early in the day to talk about cocktails but over the weekend my niece, Olivia, and her service dog, Indie (see third photo!) graduated from college and last night we had a family party to celebrate. To augment the already high spirits and the celebratory air we made Lavender Lemonade with a splash of vodka and toasted our hearts out to our two most accomplished graduates. 💜 Lavender has been used in the kitchen for centuries (mostly on the cleaning side) but ever since Herbs de Provence came into fruition in the 1970s, it has been an active ingredient on the food side of the kitchen too. And because my niece went to school in Oregon, which is known for its lavender farms and because her school colors are red and purple, this cocktail fit in so nicely with our theme! 🍋 Refreshing without being syrupy sweet, and lightly accented with the floral notes of the lavender, it’s a lovely alternative to traditional lemonade or limoncello. It can be made in cocktail or mocktail fashion and is really lovely for summer picnics and parties.
