big fan of when they properly lean into the uncanny aspect of the xmen. draw/write them as unsettling.
nightcrawler has yellow eyes and fangs and his fur blends into the darkness. you know when you drive past some animal on the side of the road and all you catch is your headlights gleaming back at you from two pinprick points in the night? when you're alone and the hair on the nape of your neck is standing straight on end. something else is here.
jean grey, at surface level, looks totally normal. but then you try to look away and you cant quite take your eyes off of her. theres this nagging feeling in the back of your head telling you to run. for just a second you feel like the entire room is on fire. and then, practically against your will, your eyes are forced down to the floor in front of you. you are almost relieved, except for the ever present sensation clouding the corners of your mind: you are in danger. run.
also wolverine is just a freak. hairy little rat man, probably hasnt showered in weeks. i just know he bites and its probably infectuous as hell. a 5'4 bear in flannel staring u down with beady black eyes and teeth that are entirely too long for his mouth.
there are def other xmen and mutants that this applies to.... anyway my point is we need more body horror and unsettling shit bc theres sm missed potential
just read her first couple comic appearances and we dont talk about boom boom nearly enough
like wdym she showed up to serve cunt and defeat the beyonder (by giving him depression)
what can i say? im a sucker for characters who use a sarcastic rough exterior to deflect from their trauma
and also characters who dress like they lost a fight with an arcade carpet circa 1985. its a shame they got rid of her fashion sense in later comics
