Since you know so much about birds, if I may ask a question... I get up really early for work and when I pass the bushes in the darkness I often hear a very soft, trilling-peeping, indescribably precious and only audible at night. I'm consumed by the idea that it's a sound birds make when they're sleeping or dreaming... Do you know anything about this tender, enchanting sound?
Bird!!!! Questions!! In my inbox!!! I'm so delighted thank you :D
I'll let you in a little secret: I am tragically Not Good at bird songs (getting better tho) but I can at least hazard a few guesses as to what's happening here
So first of all birds don't make sounds when they sleep (as far as I know), it would be terrible for them! They're vulnerable asleep, can't afford to make noise!
What you're describing sounds like a genuine bird song, so 2 options here: an unlikely scenario is that it's a diurnal bird that's being woken up by you and making an alarm call, more likely it's a nocturnal bird (who is also hearing you pass the bushes and is also sounding the alarm). Could also be a crepuscural species given the time of the day (bit before dawn). Trill-peep does give me crepuscural vibes but again I am Bad at bird songs and I only know the ones of the places I've lived in long enough
I can't guess beyond that with what you've given me, but if you're comfortable giving me a vague geographic location in my dms, I might be able to identify the most likely matches for ID!
